Great setting, food is excellent and owners can't do enough to make your stay memorable.

A breathtakingly beautiful location. Deeply relaxing with many excellent architectural features. Surrounded by trees with gorgeous gardens . William and Isabel are the most welcoming, warm and friendly people and have made Gowanbank House, which is essentially their home, into the most idyllic sanctuary for any traveller. It is difficult to find a superlative which sums up the Gowanbank House experience...however, Miraculous, is fairly close to the feeling. The delightful Willie and Isabel made us feel at home from the moment we stepped through the door. On a short visit from Belgium with my daughter, we were shown to a large twin bedroom, with two grand windows, one overlooking the valley. The accommodation is better than many a hotel I've stayed in, faultless in every detail, down to the homemade cakes left for us along with tea and coffee making facilities in the room (alas, I did not get the chance to sample!). This, combined with the genuine warmth shown by our hosts, the fabulous house and its interesting history, plus a delicious locally sourced breakfast, means that Gowanbank is now at the top of my list of places to stay. With Prestwick airport so close by, it is also a highly accessible country retreat.
