If you have vulnerable neighbours who may not be online, here is a printable update on our services that can be put through their door. (2 per sheet)

Fresh berries don't last long. To freeze them, spread on a small tray and pop in the freezer for an hour or two before transferring to a bag. This way they won't stick together, and you can defrost in portions.

If you have lots of fresh food that won’t get used, batch cook and freeze in portions. The homemade ready-meals will save time later, and are helpful if you become ill.

Use it up! Create a special area in your fridge to help you use up things which will go off first. If you use half a tin of something, pour the rest into a jar with a lid or another sealed container before putting it in there. Labeling it with a date earns you extra brownie points!

Please take litter home with you.
Many of our street cleaning staff in South Cambs are now supporting our waste collection crews. While litter bins will still be emptied, street sweeping is not taking place at the moment.

Cooked too much? Store excess in a box in the fridge (allow to cool first) and have for lunch within the next couple of days.

Start growing some veggies at home. It can be done in a window box or pots on a balcony if you don’t have a garden, and what you need can be ordered online. Think spring onions and tomatoes. When they are ready, pick as you want them, reducing food waste. And it reduces packaging waste too.

This video explains why we have suspended green bin collections. We are operating with around two thirds of our collection staff at the moment.

Struggling to think what to cook for dinner? Work out what is going to go off first, and use that up to prevent food waste and save money. For recipes, enter the main ingredients you have at https://lovefoodhatewaste.com/recipes

Many of the operators who empty clothing and other recycling banks at our recycling points are unable to collect from them due to movement restrictions. Please avoid taking any items to the banks at this time. Thank you. #WeAreAllInThisTogether

At the moment please put ALL used tissues and paper hand towels in your black bin.
If you have symptoms of Coronavirus (Covid-19), please collect your personal waste in a separate bag, tie it when full, place it inside another bag and tie that, and store it for 72 hours before putting it in your black bin.
Thank you.... #InItTogether

Home composting is a great way to continue to recycle your garden waste and raw food scraps while green bin collections are suspended. Here are some YouTube videos for the basics.
Using a an old box/basket: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6aIg0MSD OE
Or using chicken wire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj_goluMK O8
... You can also compost by just heaping up material - but using something to contain it will help.

Planning to have a clear-out? Please be aware that services are being impacted by the coronavirus pandemic:
• Collections from clothing banks have been suspended and charity shops are shut. Please store any clothes you are planning to pass on until normal services resume.
• Bulky waste collections have been suspended and Household Recycling Centres are shut. Please store any large items for now. Do NOT add them to your black bin.
... • Green bin collections are suspended. If you are tidying up the garden, heap up any garden waste to create a compost heap, or store until collections resume.
Thank you.
