A graveyard to discover not only for Harry Potter fans but also those who love this little scary atmosphere after dark....... Enjoy It!
Beautiful cemetery. I happened to stumble upon the grave of the Tom Riddle, the inspiration for he-who-must-not-be-named.
Amaziiiiing! My mom and I went at night first, which was a mistake but not for the reasons you think. When it's dark out you have NO IDEA how huge this place really is and all the amazing structures that reside within the kirkyard. While we were there we saw a few guided night time tours take place. And during the day we got to see all the amazing work that went into the crafty headstones. The church is also still in service so be careful not to wander in during a mass if you don't intend to! The gift shop wasn't open when we went, not sure if it is permanently closed? Also if you are a Harry potter fan this place was the origins of some character names such as Tom Riddle. There are Harry Potter tours that can teach you more on sight. I recomend this place even if you aren't into scary places, ghosts, or history. It is a beautiful sight and I promise you will be entertained!
A quiet place in old town! Lots of space and interesting things to learn about the city
Amazing place to visit and walk around, the ornate graves are something else and you may spot familiar names if you're a Harry Potter fan. Lots of history and spooky tales to hear from the very knowledgeable staff, there's even a great shop. Very highly recommend.
Awesome place! Especially if you are infatuated with Harry Potter, it's a must see. I went there with a Harry Potter tour guide who told us a lot about the inspiration for J.K Rowling which she took from this place (If you are interested in auch a tour, google "the potter trails". It is basically for free but everyone tips at the end ;)). You can visit the grave of "Voldemort" (poor guy who just happend to have the same name, guess he was actually really nice in real life) and you can also notice a lot of other names from the books and movies written on the stones. Right next to it is the school, which is departed in 4 houses, which happened to be the inspiration for Hogwarts.
In conclusion: Go there and be impressed!
If you are even SLIGHTLY interested in graveyards and funerary art, THIS is the place to be. This little kirkyard has some of the coolest headstones and crypts I have ever seen. In addition, for Harry Potter fans,, look beyond the Flodden Wall for some headstones of some names you might be familiar with! We visited during the day, and I think the official hours are only until 5pm, but people do visit after dark. I can't imagine! This place would be as spooky as heck, during the day the atmosphere is gothic and eerie! In addition, if anyone knows about Greyfriar's bobby, both master and pup are located here, and are well signed.
An amazing place I could have wandered around for hours I have never seen a graveyard quite like this one! Oh btw for Harry Potter fans Tom Riddles Grave is on the bottom right corner, it took us ages to find
Also another must for Harry Potter fans. Especially slytherins. You can find Tom riddle's grace here. As well as Sirius Black
