The Scottish Infected Blood Forum and Haemophilia Scotland have written a joint letter to Joe FitzPatrick MSP, Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing to ask for a meeting about the future development of the Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme (SIBSS). The letter recognises the commitment of the Minister, and the Scottish Government, to working with the community to improve the scheme, which is still provides more support proportionately than any of the other UK schemes. Yesterday, the Infected Blood Inquiry oral hearings started in London. After over three decades of campaigning this was the first time infected and affected people have given evidence to a UK-wide statutory Public Inquiry. There are going to be hearings like this all over the country so that witnesses and people who wish to attend don’t have to travel too far. Today, twelve contaminated blood and blood products campaigners have written to the UK Government urging action on improving financial support payments. It was three months ago that these twelve campaigners. including Haemophilia Scotland Chair Bill Wright, were invited to a meeting with UK Ministers and set out a case for improved financial support. "Sometimes you get people who want to wrap you up in cotton wool, but for a lot of haemophiliacs it is: 'this is what I have, not who I am'."

Thanks to the teens that attended our driving lessons event at Knockhill on Saturday! It was a gloriously warm, clear day which provided the perfect conditions for driving! We had six spots (out of sixteen) filled by Haemophilia Scotland. The day started off with a bit of theory before moving onto the tarmac where teens learnt the basics of driving in the dual-controlled Ford Fiestas. World Haemophilia Day was one week ago today!
Thanks to all who have shown support, either by attending our evening reception at the Scottish Poetry Library, by using the Haemophilia Scotland Facebook profile picture frame, by organising fundraisers for us or any other way (wearing red, painting your nails red etc.) In doing so, you have helped to raise awareness of our bleeding disorders community.
Below are just a few photos to give a taster of the evening reception. We'll have the photos from the professional photographer up shortly.

On #WorldHaemophiliaDay #WHD2019 we are looking back to all the fantastic Scottish monuments which marked the day for us last year by lighting up red.
Thanks to everyone who fed in their ideas, contacted monuments, or went out on the night and took photographs.

Why not take part in the EHC's Winding Road Campaign. The EHC are a fantastic organisation who do great work bringing patients and healthcare professionals together from across Europe. We find them an invaluable source of information and support.

Today is World Haemophilia Day! This year's theme is Outreach and Identification. Haemophilia Scotland has considerable involvement with outreach and identification abroad and at home. In 2016, we were involved with an outreach programme in Malawi. Susan Warren, Lawrence Lincoln and Joan Rae visited hospitals in Lilongwe and surrounding areas and educated people on identifying and diagnosing bleeding disorders. Also, Haemophilia Scotland is twinned with the Kenya Haemophilia Association (KHA) through the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH).
