Hamish Maclean Farm Products is a privately owned company trading in the Orkney and Shetland Islands dealing in minerals, vitamins, trace elements, protein supplements and grass seed mixtures which are mostly manufactured to suit exclusive conditions both with regard to soil, grass and climate conditions within these specific islands.
During the last 10 years the company has specialized in helping the farmers to solve problems by relating to their own specific needs, particularly with regards to fertility, daily live-weight gain, disease prevention and generally maintaining and improving animal health to maximize profit margins.
The most recent products on board have enabled Hamish to provide a much improved all-round package, namely BARENBRUG grass seed mixtures which are of the highest quality and mixed under very stringent conditions in Scotland. LACTAID second generation yeast for better digestion, increased daily live-weight gain and a huge improvement in animal health and just last year HM SILAGE INOCULANT which has, and continues to be a great success in aiding a better and quicker fermentation, resulting in much more and much better silage.
Hamish has for many years now, been the agent in Orkney & Shetland for Scotmin nutrition who are based in Ayr and produce TOP QUALITY MINERAL, VITAMIN & PROTEIN MIXES to enhance the growth and wellbeing of animals within the islands.

Hullo and before i go anywhere else have a great xmas with your families. In January week beginning 14 th we will be doing rumen audits around the island. This involves taking dung samples and finding out how efficient or non efficient the rumen is working. We will come and do it then give you a report and a recommendation. Housing minerals are extremely popular especially as most have been made to measure after silage testing. Molybdenum seems an xtra problem this year so copper levels have to be addressed. Its a twist on Orkney universal mineral which has been formulated after over 2000 silage test. Well silage testing is under way. A lot of dry stuff this year.most of our protein mixes and Lactaid yeast are here and ready for use. Agrlloyd have extended their Liquithrive sheep and lamb campaign for another couple of weeks so take advantage while you can. Order pre tup, pre lamb and lamb drench and enjoy triplets points to spend in the rewards catalogue. Pre tup goes out and is invoiced anytime soon, pre lamb in February and lamb in June.
