GO FOR BAROQUE
3-day Mixed Media Workshop with Lynne Perrella www.LKPerrella.com
... September 28-30, 2018 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) Hosted by Helen Anderson, Handmade at Helen's Solway House, The Crichton, Bankend Road, Dumfries, Scotland
Colourful, opulent, lavish, theatrical – Mixed media at its MOST excessive. If your mantra is “More is more”, this is the workshop for you. For three art-filled days we will be “under the influence” of the Baroque Era, where all ideas are accessible and low-tech – and all outcomes are expressive and vibrant. “Baroque” is far more than a style or a moment in History – it is a state of mind where colour, pattern, embellishments and layering all reign supreme. We will work with fascinating portraits, images of fanciful architecture and gardens, and rich ornamental backgrounds……and all of these ideas will illuminate your future work in collage, art journals, mixed media paintings, and altered books. Come learn all my favourite tried-and-true techniques. A ransom of new ideas and inspiration awaits, as the Baroque Age comes to scenic Scotland.
Colour, layering and theatricality –We will explore all of these ideas and more during the workshop. My speciality is creating lavish effects using inexpensive supplies, and low-tech methods. I enjoy re-inventing classic portraits, and re-casting these characters in new roles. Embellishments can be just about anything ….. paper, bits of fabric, painted strands or fibres, and more. And we’ll explore a lot of ideas for “finishing touches” – techniques that will give your work a polished “ta da!” finale.
For Seekers and Adventurers.

Handmade at Helen's (UK) is taking pre-orders now for the eagerly awaited Eileen Hull's Wrap Journal die!
The beauty of this die is that it cuts in one whole piece (no gluing required), and can cut material, leather, paper, and mountboard with ease.
Many thanks to Jenny Marples at http://pushingtherightbuttons.blogspot.co m/ for allowing us to use this photo of her beautiful journal made with this die!
... We also stock fabulous double-sided tape in three different widths - great for adhering your paper/fabric/leather etc to your mountboard before die-cutting.
Free p&p on orders over £10 :)

Day One: Get Baked!
This ain’t your grandma’s embossing powders. Everything old is new again and that refers to art and craft products too. In this full day workshop, we will be bringing EP into the 21st century. Using my collection of Baked Texture embossing powders from Emerald Creek, we will start by discussing the properties of EPs and reviewing traditional uses, such as stamping. Then we turn to the future and work with new ways to use this product. Examples include faux encaustics, custom blending, and layering. We will also cover cold applications and alternatives to embossing pads. Of course there will be art and you will create layered, textural, and dimensional artworks, Baked Texture Style.
Day Two: 50 Ways to Leave Your Layer
Okay. Maybe not 50. But a lot. In this workshop, you will be putting your paint playlist on repeat as we go through a series of paint layering techniques that you can apply to all your creative projects. Everybody will be provided with a journal to work in that we will fill up, page after page, with layered backgrounds. Additive and subtractive paint techniques, properties of acrylic paint, mark making, application strategies, and much more will be included. In the end, you will leave with a new journal that you can keep as a technique reference manual or continue to work in to complete your journal pages in your own personal style.
Please email handmadeathelens@btinternet.com for further details and to book your place.
