Hebridean Connections

About Hebridean Connections

Hebridean Connections is both an innovative website and a network of voluntary groups working to preserve the cultural heritage of the Outer Hebrides.

Hebridean Connections Description

Hebridean Connections is about:

Bringing people together around a common interest in the history and culture of the Outer Hebrides.

Taking advantage of this interest as a basis for promoting digital inclusion.

Using technology to preserve information about local history, families and traditions.

Strengthening local communities through the encouragement of volunteeering.

The project, which ran from 2013 to 2015 and followed on from an earlier initiative the same name, was a partnership involving ten local history societies (comainn eachdraidh). It was financed by the Scottish Government’s People and Communities Fund (PCF), Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE), and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CnES). A one-year extension to 2016 is being supported by: PCF; the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF); CnES; and the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO). The project is managed by the Islands Book Trust on behalf of the comainn eachdraidh.
