About Hendersons Holyrood

Independent family run business, third-generation since 1962. We are fresh, delicious and healthy: vegan and vegetarian food.

Hendersons Holyrood Description

Building on the success of the newly re-launched Henderson’s Vegan, Henderson’s have opened a brand new restaurant offering a stone’s throw from the Scottish Parliament.

The new restaurant will be serving food from 8. 30am to 8. 30pm, and headed up by chef Kasia Modzelewska and manager Peter Monteath. Henderson’s acquired the space during August 2015, where they ran it as a Fringe pop-up, but decided that it was too good an opportunity to miss and moved in full time.

Business Development Manager Barrie Henderson said: “In the last 12 months, the increase in demand for vegetarian and vegan food options has naturally drawn us to open up new outlets. As a company, we have been passionate about sustainable, ethical and healthy food choices for 53 years, and it just happens that many others are coming round to these issues too. ”

This new restaurant is counter service till 5pm and table service in the evenings from 5pm. Some of the main dishes on the menu are the Thai cashew nut burger (£8. 50), Henderson’s vegan haggis (£8. 50) and a new dish, roasted sweet potato stuffed with feta, olives, sundried tomatoes and fresh herbs (£7. 95).

Lovely vegi food, good value a real gem.

User

Lovely food, well worth a visit. Went with husband & our two vegetarian teenagers for Lunch. Portions very generous & very filling. So much so that I didn't need a very large evening meal. Would go back again & would recommend to others. Staff helpful & friendly.

Just having breakfast and a cup for tea before I get a train home

User

Just finished a fabulous lunch here! Staff were also very helpful and it turns out to be a great dog spotting venue too!

User

I love this place. The staff are so lovely and welcoming, it's child and pet friendly, the interior is so quaint, food's delicious. Highly recommend it. Especially if you want good, authentic coffee!

User

I had breakfast one day and lunch another it was lovely! The staff were friendly and the coffee was great. I can't recommend it enough. Many thanks

User

Great Vegan food here, all 3 of us had something different for lunch and we all enjoyed what we had. I had the Seitan 'steak' sandwich which was great. It is not the cheapest place to eat but relaxed friendly atmosphere with great service and nice surroundings and location make it worth it.

User

Good location, friendly staff and excellent pancakes.

User

Good food and a nice atmosphere. I had Thai curry and carrot cake which were both really good, I will be back next time I'm in Edinburgh.

First visit to Vegan restaurant (we normally eat at Hanover Street when we are down but not this time). However lovely bright airy small restaurant with amazing food - we both had sweet potato chips with a dip - one tomato and salsa and one harissa and it was to die for - could have licked the dish out it was so good. I had a green smoothie and hubby a coffee along with carrot cake and a chocolate pudding. Cake had a bit too much icing on it for me but apart from that was good. Now we know where to find it - just off Holyrood Road (found it through maps on my phone) we will definitely be back.

Bexs couldn’t have been more accommodating to make my 40th birthday with my family special. Great food and my 16th year old nephew loved what he called the ‘fake’ steak sandwich. Many thanks. I’ll be back

Great vegan food , nice staff

Great coffee and vegan pancake breakfast! Good music and cute interior. They could be better with service and cleanliness, though. It would be less confusing for visitors if a sign read - 'please seat yourself ' upon entering (I've observed others have the same reaction that I did when I first entered). They take a while to clear the tables, and apparently they simply remove trash rather than wipe or disinfect. Once someone finally takes your order, the utensils are delivered in a little bucket which is cute but clearly dirty inside. My utensil heads were facing down in it on my first visit. Even when there is a wait for tables, the servers don't check on their current guest to offer the bill (thereby making space for the next party). Don't get me wrong, I like the place, but they can definitely use some improvements.

User

Food and atmosphere really nice however but pricey.

User

Nice place. Good veggie chips but no need to eat there if you are a meat lover.

User

Very sloppy 'pulled mushroom' burger. Basically a small mushroom chopped with some sauteed (slimy) onion and half a jar of mayonaisse on a bun. Impossible to eat and left me feeling quite nauseous. My friends £5.50 spanakopitta was on the small side and so soggy we could only assume it was microwaved.

2 stars for the crispy sweet potato chips and strong coffee.

Overpriced and disappointing.
