Heriot-Watt School Of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure And Society Description

Students and researchers here at the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society delve into subjects such as urban and regional planning, real estate investment and development, housing policy, civil engineering, sustainable urban design and more. Research within the school impacts on national policy regarding poverty, homelessness and other social issues, it takes place within engineering labs and high speed rail rigs, it progresses how we use building materials in new projects as well as in conservation and explores who uses urban spaces, how and why. Alongside its research activity, the School maintains strong links with industry through programme advisory committees, membership and fellowship of professional bodies, mentoring schemes and guest lecturers. Our research and postgraduate teaching is split into three Institutes:
the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design
the Institute for Social Policy, Housing, Environment and Real Estate
the Institute for Infrastructure and Environment

Heriot-Watt is Scotlandโ€™s most international university, and students come to the School of the Built Environment from all over the world. You can study our programmes on our Edinburgh campus, either full-time or part-time, while for those based outside of Scotland a number of our programmes can be studied at Heriot-Watt Universityโ€™s Dubai or Malaysia campuses. Another study option we offer at postgraduate level is Independent Distance Learning (IDL). IDL offers great flexibility, allowing you to integrate your study with work and other commitments and is therefore ideal for those wishing to further their academic qualifications while in full-time employment.
