Village Triobike project to provide rides for older people
The Friends of the Rec would like to thank you for your votes for our Aviva Community Grant fund application - the good news is that we have now reached the Finals of Aviva Community Fund.
John Lewis has kindly agreed to support the project through their Community Matters scheme and please do put your tokens into the box by the Espresso bar until the end of January. After this time John Lewis will weigh the tokens and depending on the weight we will receive a portion of £3,000 which is split between the three groups in the box

Histon & Impington Triobike project
As part of the project fundraising effort to purchase a triobike to take older people out for rides I applied on behalf of Friends of the Rec to the Aviva Community Fund for a grant of £1000.
Our project has passed the first hurdle but we now need to obtain as many votes as possible for our grant request ... to be successful
This is done by logging onto the following link and registering to vote - you then have 5 votes to use which can all be placed for this project
https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voti†¦/project/view/4-2048
If you could do this it would really be appreciated plus encourage others and help us raise the last £2k needed towards the £8k target as we have raised £6k already

Histon & Impington Triobike project
At the start of 2018 Margaret Reed Roberts posted on the Village facebook a picture of young person in Scotland taking out two older people out for a ride in a triobike. This is a good way for those with mobility issues, socially isolated and in care homes to enjoy being out in the open air. There are about 40 community triobike schemes in the country which rely on volunteer riders to take out the older people using the bike
The Friends of ...the Rec have taken up the challenge to purchase one for our community - the cost in total is about £7k
The fundraising is one half of the task with the other setting up an operation for the triobike to be used .
A triobike supplier will be visiting the Recreation Ground next Tuesday evening at 6.45pm with a triobike. If you would like to see a bike please do come to look and it also an opportunity for anyone interested in becoming involved with the project to come. If you are unable to come but interested please do contact me neilsdavies12@gmail.com

Strawberry 50 event update
The Strawberry 50 Community cycling event established in 2015 has become a successful mass participative sporting event with nearly 800 people taking part last year.
The event is organised by Friends of Histon & Impington Recreation in partnership with Histon Bicycle Club and the safety of riders taking part is of overriding importance to the organisers.
... All residents in the County will have seen the deterioration of our road surfaces especially over the last winter and the failure to ensure that at least the potholes are repaired.
Over recent weeks both Strawberry 50 routes have been ridden by members of the organising group and regretfully the state of the roads is of concern to us and consequently the safety of riders.
The 2018 event has therefore been cancelled including the family Strawberry 14 ride.
The organisers very much hope that the 2019 event can place.

My son's favourite park by far!!! There's a good variety of things for the kids and it's laid out well too.

User

Had a fantastic time running the Flaming June Half Marathon! This was my second year running the course and I loved it even more. The marshals are friendly and encouraging, and it was nice to see members of the community cheering us on along the way -- great race atmosphere! Everything went smoothly along the course (water stations, path markers, etc.) and there is a good mix of pavement and trail running. I'm also a big fan of the finisher medals keeping a similar design from one year to the next!

Thank you so much for a great event and I'm looking forward running it again next year!

User

First time doing 1/2 Marathon, really hard work, huge thanks to all the support from the marshals, could not have got through it without you all x x
