About Hi-Scot

Western Isles Credit Union Ltd trading as HI-Scot Credit Union is authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA & PRA (no: 452610).

Hi-Scot Description

HI-Scot Credit Union is the first choice for savings and borrowing in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

Unlike the High Street banks the focus of HI-Scot Credit Union is on service to members rather than shareholder profit. Put simply, we pool together our members savings to provide loans to other members.

This community owned asset has no external 'fat cat' shareholders so every single penny generated by the business is used for the benefit of members.

Launched in 2006 as Western Isles Credit Union, demand was such that in late 2009 the membership agreed that the Credit Union should be available to everyone in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

In November 2010 the Credit Union began trading as HI-Scot Credit Union to reflect this larger area. Anyone who lives or works in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland can join the Credit Union.

Good morning everyone, I hope you are taking advantage of the lovely sunny weather.
HI-Scot had hoped to welcome a number of new members from Shetland this week but, due to circumstances outwith our control, we have to delay this for another week.
For Shetland Islands Credit Union members, things will carry on as as they are at present. I will provide an update early next week - keep an eye on our Facebook page.

When we sent out our statements earlier in the year we asked our members for a bit of feedback on our loan products.
The response was fantastic and we would like to thank each and every member who took the time to complete the survey.
We offered a £50 gift card to a randomly selected member who took part in the draw.
... The lucky winner is Margaret Clark (pictured). We hope Margaret has fun spending her winnings.

Another multi billion pound loss from state owned RBS.
Thats a total loss of £58 billion since the 2008 Government bail out.
A bailout that cost the UK taxpayer a total of £850 billion.
... No profits in 8 years equals a bonus pot of £343 million.
And 87 RBS bankers will receive a bonus with the word million after the number.
It's absolutey outrageous.

HI-Scot has thousands of members across the Highlands and Islands with members from Yell in the North to Fort William in the South, from Wick in the East to Castlebay in the West.
The Board of Directors are drawn from our members and live across the massive area we cover. We meet every month by telephone but once a year we make the effort to get together face to face for the day and have a more in depth discussion.
There was a great turnout for this years get together in cent...ral Inverness with some Directors meeting each other for the first time despite haven spoken on the phone many times before.
Pictured are:
Seated (L-R): Ruth MacDonald, Anne MacCorquodale Standing (L-R): Dave Rattray, Bill Fernie, Roderick McLeod, John Rodwell, Gordon Murray, Margaret A. Macleod, John Richards
The Board were joined by Lorna Eller (Supervisory Committee - standing far right) and David Mackay (General Manager - behind the lens).
Roddy Johnston was not able to join us.
These face to face meetings make a massive difference and the commitment of the Board of Directors and the supervisory Committee (all doing this in their own time - many taking time off their day jobs to do so) should provide reasurance to our members that their Credit Union is in very capable hands.
