The Highland Cattle Society was founded in 1884 by a group of landowners and farmers whose aim was to preserve this valuable native breed. The Society is the custodian of the breed with responsibilities for: - Stewardship of the pedigree herd book and breed standards Education and technical support in its widest sense to the membership and to third parties including the media and national government policy makers Promotion of the breed both nationally and internationally Communicating the benefits of Highland cattle and in particular their value as a beef breedFor those who love Highland cattle and want to preserve their heritage, being a member of the Highland Cattle Society is the most effective way to do this.
