MISSING
Someone has stolen our curling pond!!
It's actually a casualty of the hot weather that we have been having here over the last few weeks. It's only ever a shallow pond so it's not surprising that it has dried up but I'm sure we will see it back to normal later in the year. We hope you are enjoying the nice weather whilst it lasts?

User

We were there yesterday it was amazing. Lots to see and do. They have a bit for your dog's with 2 kennels and fresh water. The only thing is Cindy has issues about being separated from me so had to keep going back. But still loved it all. The staff were very helpful and nice definitely go back

User

We were lucky enough to visit when a re-enactment was going on which was fantastic, the whole place is brilliant and I honestly can’t recommend this place enough.

User

We had a really great time and were on site for a good few hours. We enjoyed walking through the woods and seeing the different stages in time. All the staff were really helpful and were very happy to give information. We purchased a guide book on the way in which was a great help. The highlight was the old settlement, with the fire going in the different buildings, the staff in costumes and the animals running around, it really did feel like we had stepped back in time. There is a bit of a gap around the late 1800’s but you can see that they are still developing some of the sites. Please don’t expect Disney Effects, it’s not that sort of place, just all simply done well. Thanks for a good FREE morning out.

User

Very interesting place to visit and walk around. The re-inactment staff also enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

User

Very good place to visit we had a great time here all the staff were very friendly and helpful they were all very informative and Jenny at the reception was very friendly and informative

User

This is one of the best visitor attractions I have ever been too 👍

User

The people working there explained to us everything in a very gentle way. It is interesting and worth visiting!

User

Really love this place. Spent the day here...lovely cafe, friendly staff and loads for the kids to do. Highly recommend it.

User

Omdays!!!!! Were do I start, my husband & I visited for the first time today, this place absolutely blew our minds The setting is stunning, the museum buildings are unbelievable I honestly do not have words to describe our day other than wow wow wow!!!!! The staff we met (a crofter & his lady) were so knowledgeable & were more than happy to stand & answer questions & pose for photographs. The school teacher was brilliant again her knowledge was fantastic. The lady in the sweetie shop was lovely, pleasant helpful & we chatted about the little baby dollys in there & the delicious smelling sweeties. We dressed up in the clothes available & a lovely couple took photographs for us. The cafe too was a pleasure to visit, good choice of lovely food & gluten free options too. The smells & items in some of the houses took us back to our childhoods. We have had an absolutely amazing day & can't wait to come back again.

User

My friend and I visited on a warm Sunday afternoon and what a lovely place it is. The exhibits are excellent and I loved that it is a very much a hands on museum. The schoolhouse was very entertaining with the volunteer playing the part of strict teacher did very well. The 1700's village was very authentic and going into these gloomy houses was an experience and I could have watched the lady spinning all day, it really did give a realistic idea of how life was then. The other buildings scattered over the site are in a very good state of repair. I particularly liked the summer cottage and of course the sweetie shop, the woman serving there was lovely. The cafe and toilets are spot on. Would visit again and recommend it.

User

I've been there 3 times so far, #4 coming up! It has expanded each time, and is a wonderful way for a foreigner to see what Highland life was all about in the past.

User

I went for the first time today. What a lovely place. There was also a battle re-enactment which made it even better. I will definitely be back. Thank you

User

I had known about this place for quite some time, so I visited today for the very first time. I spent 4 hours walking around the place, capturing photographs along the way. I could have spent all day here, I enjoyed it that much! The weather was absolutely amazing, I don't think I could have picked a better day! What can I say, this place exceeded my expectations in so many ways. This is one of the best visitor attractions I have ever been to. Can I also mention, it's FREE entry, although donations are greatly appreciated!

The location is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery. The museum buildings are just amazing, and make you really feel as though you have stepped back in time.

The school was one of my favourites. I loved having a go at handwriting with an old fashioned fountain pen and ink, it was great! The teacher was very informative and friendly, as well as sharing a laugh with his pupils at the same time.

The lady in the sweetie shop was just adorable, I couldn't resist buying some sweets from her!

There is plenty to see and do here, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic day out.

User

Having been a regular at the museum, it was a real pleasure to get on the private tour around Am Fasgadh, the HFM repository of over 12000 artifacts. So glad the Highland Council chose to invest in saving so much of highland country heritage in Isabel Grant's collection. Great to have been round and struck by how much isn't on show and with careful promotion, many others could gain insight into highland life of bygone years. There must also be some benefit through linking collections with that at the Museum of Country Life in Lanarkshire. Is this something HFM has thought about?

User

Great day out with the kids. Well set up and very friendly staff. What's to grumble about on a donation only day out? Thanks guys we will be back. Highly recommended this for kids and adults keen to learn about life during times gone by

User

Amazing place to take the kids! Educational and fun! Hours of entertainment! Especially on a nice sunny day!

User

Amazing place for a family day out really can’t recommend it highly enough! The school was my kids favourite bit the teachers were amazing. Thank you for making history fun for us and our children! Can’t believe this place only runs on donations so please folks give generously for this amazing place without donations it wouldn’t be able to be run and kept as well as it is

User

What a great day out! Enthusiastic and welcoming staff, loads of information on the various eras. My only issue would be the lack of signage for the black houses. We almost missed out on a complete village of black houses at the back of the woods. The museum was so interesting and informative and the staff were amazing. Well done to all!

User

Really interesting place to visit . A lot of the artifacts were more recent as we could remember them from our childhood but of course to the children they would be ancient . Great to see inside the houses/ buildings which truly have been brought back to life .... my husband was constantly saying "can we go in here?" . The school was fascinating and it was the "teacher's" first day but she was really lovely and informative to talk to, I could have stayed chatting to her all afternoon. The 1700s Township was so interesting and the man volunteer told us so much we'd never have thought to even ask about. The Museum is run by volunteers and you could tell by their friendliness and enthusiasm. I know it's run on donations which can be gift aided - tho I didn't see anywhere to apply for gift aid so will go on the website. The only way it could be improved IMO is if some sort of shuttle could be run between entrance and the Township for people who can't walk very far (there is a way to drive round via public roads) but a shuttle would encourage people to return for a coffee after their visit there.

I've been there 3 times so far, #4 coming up! It has expanded each time, and is a wonderful way for a foreigner to see what Highland life was all about in the past.

I went for the first time today. What a lovely place. There was also a battle re-enactment which made it even better. I will definitely be back. Thank you

Great day out with the kids. Well set up and very friendly staff. What's to grumble about on a donation only day out? Thanks guys we will be back. Highly recommended this for kids and adults keen to learn about life during times gone by

What a great day out! Enthusiastic and welcoming staff, loads of information on the various eras. My only issue would be the lack of signage for the black houses. We almost missed out on a complete village of black houses at the back of the woods. The museum was so interesting and informative and the staff were amazing. Well done to all!
