Lots of festive goodies in the deli, come on in for a dose of seasonal cheer!

Are you often stuck in a meeting with flagging spirits? We at the Deli feel "Meetings go better with cake!". If that's followed by a delicious lunch platter of filled rolls or a cheese platter with fresh bread, chutney and quince jelly or...a tasty mini quiche and salad bowl..joy!! We can provide simple business lunches for you and will be happy to deliver platters in Haddington and surrounding area. Give us a ring and let us know your needs. 24 hours notice is grand but if your wants are more pressing - we'll do our best! Personally, I would also add a bowl of liquorice allsorts to the meeting-room table. We have large bags of these tasty sweeties in store - mines the liquorice log!

Finally finished the turkey..Hurrah! so now you can go out and forage for lunch. Drop into the Deli for a delicious take away soup. Bill from the Library has his with a dunker...and who are we to comment! Be virtuous with a salad box and choose from tuna, egg or pasta and add our famous broccoli salad, ruby red beetroot salad and crunchy coleslaw. Top with olives or sundried tomatoes. Delicious. Salad not quite enough? Add a tasty pastry - tomorrow we will have puff pastries with spinach, tomato, mushroom, taleggio cheese and caramelised onions or creamed leeks, gorgonzola cheese and walnuts. A mini quiche can be yours or a slice of yummy pizza. And for those who have already abandoned the dreaded New Year diet/detox..cake and Hot chocolate. I drink mine with marshmallows and cream...go girl!!

No gee-gee in our burgers, in fact....no burgers!! Plenty of delicious, freshly baked quiches, savoury pastries, filled rolls, salads, toasties and soup. Add coffee, sinful hot chocolate and a variety of teas. Top all this with a piece of Tracey's famous cake...tomorrow we shall have coffee cake, apple cider cake, scones and a blueberry and almond tart. For a smaller piece of heaven we have Italian cannolis and Delizie di Eva. Yum! It's cold so calories don't count!! Two new cheeses..lovely, nutty easy to melt Fontina and wine soaked Ubriacone. Add Louise Elder's Black and Gold oatcakes to reach Nirvana.

I have stopped looking like a hamster!! Thanks to my new, best friends at the Dental Lounge, Court Street, Haddington, I am as good as new. Thanks guys! So......onto Christmas. We're busy making up baskets - some excellent local produce from Black and Gold, The Chocolate Tree, Ailey Mae, Belhaven Smokehouse and Dolly at the Hopeton Arms, Ormiston. Dollymakes Chilli Jam - wow, we've just discovered this gorgeous condiment. Leftover turkey will zing with a spoonful of this. We have cheese!! Irish, smoked soft cheese, Isle of Mull cheddar, Peccorino Sardo, hand-made blue Stilton by Colston Bassett, Taleggio and the Coos R oot. Vacherin Mont d'ors should be in the shop by Wednesday - now there's a present for you!! Come away in!!

Gorgeous Christmas goodies now in - mini cheese truckles in wax, stilton in jars or for cutting, pate, foie gras, duck rillettes, jams, chutneys, chocolate. Call in to order your Christmas cheese or to discuss baskets of goodies for Christmas. Go on...spoil a loved one. Call in and relax with a delicious coffee and scone or cake..have lunch..take a break from the frantic shopping. The Christmas window will be created on Tuesday...Connie and Iona will be the artists - can't wait to see the end results. I mentionned the C word about a month ago...trouble! So now I mention it again - Christmas!! Ha ha! Do start thinking about hampers, cheese boards, chutneys, cakes, chocolates, sugar mice for your stockings etc etc. Come in and have a browse and a chat about food at Christmas. Kill two birds with one stone (as it were!)...we are next door to Colin Peat, the game butcher...get that turkey ordered. Whilst you are in the deli, why not have lunch? We have a delicious soup of the day...pastries, quiches, toasties, filled rolls, delicious fresh salads, olives, cheese and that's just the savoury side of things. Tracey's cakes are in abundance everyday including a gluten-free option. Ding-Dong Merrily on High!

Bars of chocolate... you can share or keep to yourself! We have bars of delight from the Chocolate Tree - Haddington's own chocolatiers. Two new flavours - Maya, with its orange and spice flavours and Turkish coffee. So good. The deli is also stocking chocolate by Ailey Mae ... the Raw Chocolate range has seven fabulous flavours and is so good for you. Yes...it is! No additives, no gluten, no sugar and no dairy..... and a devine taste. It doesn't get better.

Wanting easy meals? You can do no better than the range of ready meals from Provence Direct. Meals in a jar that will serve 2-3 people. Easy to cook...tip out contents of jar into bowl and microwave until piping hot. Or...take off lid and stand in bain-marie for 10-15 mins in a medium heat oven. Serve with rice, cous-cous or pasta and a little salad. Devine! Range includes Quail confit, chicken a la Provencale, braised duck in cognac sauce, duck in fig sauce. Also we have lardons in lentils and haricot beans cooked in duck fat. The latter are to die for... serve with a deli quiche (or a wee pork chop from Colin Peat next door) and some spinach. Yum! It's never too early to mention the C word!! Tracey is baking Christmas cakes. Gorgeous fruity, brandy-fed, iced wonders. We will be selling a 6" inch cake that will come to you on a board, decorated and boxed. The 4" cake will be on a board, wrapped in cellophane and be-ribboned. Ideal for a family "do" or to give as gifts. The 6" cake will cost £27.50 and the 4" cake will cost £15. Call us on 01620 824220 to order your cake or call into the deli and enjoy a coffee whilst we discuss your cakeage needs. I realise the cake sizes are given in old money. I have no idea of the centimetre equivalent - but you dear, clever customer will be able to do the math!

I'm on a Facebook course today! Ho Ho! Expect some fantastic changes just as soon as I have deciphered my notes! What are we up to in the deli? Tracey continues to produce her gorgeous cakes and includes a gluten-free cake each day in the range on offer. Wheat intolerant and fancy a toastie? We can do that for you - please ask. It rains and rains. If you need cheering up, the deli has a new range of Italian chocolates on offer. I've road-tested them for you... and they're good... and I am fatter! New cheeses - Ballyoak smoked Brie and Boilie goat's cheese. Come and have a taste. New range of olives - fab French black olives the size of plums. So good.....!

Good food marries well with other good things in life! Hilary's Deli is now selling tickets for this year's Lammermuir Festival. Beautiful music in beautiful places! I shall be going to the opening and closing concerts for sure - really like the look of the Sean Shibe concert at Lennoxlove and the evening at Tantallon is a must! Celebrate midsummer and support one of our favourite causes in the magical Dr Neil's Garden, Duddingston Village, on Sunday July 1st 2-5pm, with Mairi Campbell, Zawadi Alba, Sangstream, Accord, Edinburgh Guitar and Mandolin Orchestra and Freilach un Tsores Klesmer Band. The rain in Spain etc etc ....more appealing Spanish products in the deli - new Olive oil and red wine vinegar in beautiful bottles, delicious olive tapenade, Idiazabel and Valdeon picos blue cheeses and membrillo to complement same. New range of Italian pastas and sauces including a meaty ragu Bolognese and a sugo al baccala (salt cod and thick tomato sauce). Some amazing little Italian pastries to go with your coffee - cannoli and Delizie di Eva - baked almond paste around a morello cherry. Yum! We're going pate mad this weekend and have smoked trout, duck and orange, coarse game and chicken liver pates for your supper. Call in and see us!

Spring has sprung in the deli-and Esther pronounces her soya hot chocolate the best ever!

We're promoting a February lunch-time meal deal! Delicious filled roll, crisps, can juice - £3.50 OR egg/cheese sandwich, crisps and can juice - £2.50 OR any other sandwich, crisps etc £2.95. Excellent!! Cold weather had us thinking and we now have a choice of soups at lunch-time - one vegetarian the other a hearty meat-based number. Tomorrow's cakes....carrot cake, coffee cake (my new best friend!), banana and walnut cake, blueberry and almond flan, scones and we are tasting the new red velvet cup cakes - come and join us!

Five stars, excellent local deli with awesome coffee

Awesome, friendly deli with a great range of tasty foods and cheeses. Their hot chocolate is the best in town but so are their salads, soups and quiche!!! X
