Hms Unicorn Description

Launched in 1824 HMS Unicorn is the third oldest ship in the world still afloat and one of the six oldest ships in the world!

She is Scotland’s only preserved warship and is the most completely original ship in the entire world to have survived from the golden age of sail!

Now a historic ship and visitor centre she provides the unique experience of life on board a 19th century Frigate!

Come and explore all 4 decks of history aboard this original 193 year old historic ship and museum. This authentic and interactive experience of life on board a 46-gun frigate is a fun day out for all the family.

As well as a unique visitor attraction and museum, we also hold a variety of events throughout the year including kids pirate fun days, evening talks, plays, family ceilidhs, guided tours, live jazz, blues, folk and opera - to name but a few.

If you'd like to receive our newsletter on upcoming events, please email us: mail@frigateunicorn.org.

HMS Unicorn is also available for private hire - weddings, parties, dinners, ceilidhs and more. Please contact Anita on 07745266804 or at unicornevents@frigateunicorn.org to find out more about hiring the ship for your function.

Went to visit the unicorn today and was fantastic. The service was friendly and welcoming, the prices of tickets and the shop inside was reasonably good. I have learnt much more about British ship history today and took lot's of photos. My only concern was not being able to use the canons or muskets :(!... Haha oj but all in all great ship to visit I would thoroughly recommend you visit

User

We had a very enjoyable visit to the HMS Unicorn today. A fascinating well preserved piece of history. We would highly recommend this attraction to everyone.

User

Visited this fine old ship on my way back to Glasgow. Very impressed. There are 4 floors to explore and a lot to do, see and read. I spent about an hour there. The admission fee was only a fiver and it goes towards the upkeep of the ship so can't complain about that. The young guy on the ticket stand was very helpful and friendly. Been meaning to do this for a while so glad I finally did. Well worth a visit.

User

Very interesting looking around and imagining what it was like for the people who worked on there.

My Dad and his brother have history with the unicorn too so nice gift taken back for him

User

Totally enjoyed the visit. To wonder on four decks, to see the living conditions, to see why this type of ship was built, to see how it housed its 80 plus guns (cannons) it's ballast, right down into its keel area. Authentic, no electric in them days, no engine room. Nearly 200 years afloat in water and it's still afloat in water. A must visit.

User

Took my twin grandchildren (3 years old) to the pirate funday and they really enjoyed it. I was nervous of the stairs but the children took it in their stride. They looked all over the ship and took part in some drawing activities and played bowling, they even steered the ship! Thank you, a lovely afternoon.

User

The ship is a great icon, many different events take place on board the old wooden frigate.one of the pleasing aspects is that it caters for all ages, has an historical and modern outlook which is refreshing and am sure I mentioned before.Keep up the good work.

User

Thank you to Anita and all staff on board HM Frigate Unicorn for hosting a fabulous wedding for my daughter Siobhain and husband Andrew on Saturday. Anita is amazing, calm, cool and collected just what every bride needs. Couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating, would highly recommend for a function. Also the ship itself is fascinating to see, well worth a visit.

Our young boys loved the Unicorn. It set their imaginations on fire. What a great place for all ages. It's an asset to the city... Well worth the visit and it is run by some really friendly and helpful staff....

User

Kids had a great time exploring the Unicorn and it was family fun day so they had even more fun. A great day out x

User

I know through lack of funding it's very hard to improve at this time. I wish you all the Very Best. A Very Interesting Chapter of UK History. Thank You .

User

Hi guys, we had an excellent visit today. Bob gave a great tour, so much information and a really interesting guy.

We loved the atmosphere, it was like the crew had just left.

Getting to see right down to the bilge made you realise just how hard work life on the high seas was.

It was a fantastic day out.

Thank you x

User

First visit in such a long time today!

Our son had an absolutely brilliant morning ringing bells, counting the guns and cannon balls and posing with the unicorn and dressing up for the captains table!

Lovely friendly staff too!

Really enjoyed ourselves!

So much more to do and see than on the Discovery.
