Boutique hotel for horses; Highly Recommended for Outstanding Performance by BHS; superb facilities; run by friendly, professional staff. Come and see!

Hogholm Stables Training And Livery Yard Description

Run by riders for riders, Hogholm Stables is conveniently located only 2½ miles from Kintore and Inverurie, and 15 miles from Aberdeen city centre. Sited in beautiful countryside with wonderful views of Bennachie and the rolling Garioch landscape, the yard offers easy access to all the main competition centres in North East Scotland. A BHS Approved Livery Yard since 2003, Hogholm is a secure yard with the owners, Lorna Anderson and Steve Redgrave, living on site.

The yard is run with two principles in mind: safety and fun. Simple yard rules – available on request – ensure that everyone, whether two-legged or four-legged, enjoys their time at Hogholm.

Every horse has its own spacious stable, with rubber matting, Haybar, tying points and rug rail, in purpose-built modern American barns. With stabling for 17 livery horses, including the owners’ horses, the yard is large enough to be sociable but small enough to be friendly. Based alongside the livery yard, in a self-contained 9-stable barn, is West Eventing.

The excellent riding facilities – 63x20m indoor school with mirrors, 60x20m floodlit outdoor arena with mirrors and 50x45m outdoor sand school - are complemented by varied hacking and field riding. As Hogholm does not hold competitions, there is open access to all facilities within yard hours (0730-2130).

The yard’s owner, Lorna Anderson, not only coaches clients in flatwork, but also hosts regular Clinics with top flatwork trainers from the UK and Europe. Livery clients are also welcome to bring in their own trainers.

Here is our latest BHS Approval certificate; Highly Recommended for all relevant categories (Approved for Safeguarding as we don’t take under-16s, therefore it isn’t a relevant category for us). This means we will enter 2020 as being the only Scottish Livery Yard and Facility Hire to have attained Highly Recommended for 11 years! Clearly this doesn’t happen by accident, and its due to our wonderful workforce who turn up on time, day in and day out, healthy or sick, to care for our horses and the yard housekeeping. Here's to the Hogholm staff!!

Team Hogholm busy with Spring field work, getting the stone-picking and poo-hoovering done before the contractors roll the fields

User

Fire Drill training - even the dogs got involved! Driveway gates closed, 12 horses evacuated by three people in three minutes in a simulated evacuation, gates reopened to allow access for Emergency Services, lessons learned, Fire Procedures updated. We all hope to never need this knowledge, but practising never goes amiss!

Where are all the people looking for part-time work? We have openings for grooms on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays - could be one person, or several. Working 0800-1630 with another experienced team member, experience with horses preferred but rusty or looking for training also acceptable. Must have a mature attitude to work and be reliable! Own horse welcome. Please PM with details of your experience and available days and please share - thank you!
