Durisdeer nestles at foot of The Lowther hills , and is within easy reach of Southern Upland Way.
Thornhill is only 5 miles away with hotels, small supermarkets and excellent places to eat .
Drumlanrig Castle is only a few miles away with fishing on the River Nith, and local lochs, mountain biking trails and adventure playground and also tours of the castle. There is more mountain biking available at the 7-Stanes tracks of nearby Forest of Ae and Mabie forest further afield. There are also many lovely beaches along the Solway coast There are wildlife reserves at Caerlaverock and Mersehead (RSPB) and Kite trails towards the Galloway hills.
Durisdeer is a haven of peace and quiet with no passing traffic yet within an hour or so of Edinburgh , Glasgow , Ayr and Carlisle .
