About Howe Of Torbeg

Howe of Torbeg is a small campsite in the heart of Royal Deeside - tranquil camping in style with 4 wooden Glamping Pods. Small is beautiful! Bespoke, high quality accommodation and facilities, on a small scale.

Howe Of Torbeg Description

Come and share our corner of the Cairngorms National Park! Wooden pod camping situated just outside the village of Ballater, in the heart of Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms. Nestled in Glen Gairn, surrounded by farmland and Birch woods, experience the tranquillity of the glen and easy access to all that the surrounding area has to offer.

For camping with creature comforts, stay in one of our 4 wooden pods, or sleep under canvas on one of our two perfect pitches. Fully insulated, with a heater and electricity, each pod also has its own fire pit and picnic bench – perfect for BBQs or nights under the stars! Free showers onsite in our fully heated, environmentally conscious shower block.

A great base for exploring the local area or further afield, or just a pleasant place to while away a few days! Direct access to gorgeous walks, hiking and cycling, as well as proximity to two of the National Park’s ski resorts and all of the tourist attractions of Royal Deeside. Also, a perfect stopping off point if you’re touring the scenic Snow Road route.

“The site at Torbeg is the perfect combination of isolation, serenity and beauty - without being too far off the beaten track. ” Chris, Edinburgh.

Howe of Torbeg is a family business, owned and run by Iain and Nicole Gildea, who also live on site.

Inspired by #Winterwatch which was fantastic all last week (& live from the Cairngorms!) we've been doing a bit of bird watching 🐦Loads of blue tits and coal tits, of course the Robins who our very own Robin Pod is named after, and our resident Woodpecker were all frequent visitors this week ☺️ #birds #howeoftorbeg #wildlife

It was the earliest sunset of the year yesterday (although not the shortest day yet), a time to mark the passing of the seasons. There's plenty to see and do in all seasons in the National Park, this blog post gives a great Top 10 for inspiration for a visit. And of course you can keep cosy of an evening staying with us! #winterglamping #lovecairngorms #getoutdoors #wintersun #winterliving

Extra thick mattress, extra warm blankets...nothing to do but read a book, take a nap or go for a hike or a hot chocolate!

User

Super cosy with extra warm blankets and seasonal bedding...snuggle up and do nothing...or be the early bird out on the slopes when the snow comes!

If you haven't heard already, Lecht 2090, the ski hill nearest to Howe of Torbeg, has purchased an all-singing all-dancing snow factory and will be opening some slopes early this season, in December! Even more reasons to book a stay with us - get to that snow first! They will be posting regular updates on their pages as to what might be open & when. This weekend it will just be the Wren Magic Carpet, but as production continues should see some more cover and weekend opening in December fingers crossed!

We stayed in the family pod for a few days and had such a wonderful time. The facilities were lovely and the pod was comfortable. The owners were great and made us feel really welcome. The views are simply stunning and as it is small it has a lovely homely feel, there are loads of walks and places to visit near by and Ballater is close by for everything you might have forgotten!

User

Thank you Nicola for your lovely hospitality, Amy and myself had a wonderful three nights camping, the scenery is wonderful, and the facilities are great, and love the tea shack, will be definitely back soon.

User

Such a beautiful setting! The pods are comfortable and so clean! The shower/toilet block with kitchen sink area was spotless also.

Nicole was so friendly and helpful! We enjoyed two nights in the pods cooking our breakfast, lunch and dinner on the fire pit & enjoyed some drinks in the evening, again with the fire blazing as the sun went down. A little piece of heaven.

User

Stayed here for a long weekend to ride the Snow Roads on our Motorbikes. Had a great time. Will definitely stay again. Nicole & Iain are great hosts & nothing is too much trouble. They have thought of everything with added little extras. Showers & Toilets spotless. Views are amazing would definitely recommend staying here if you fancy a bit of Glamping! Thanks to you both for making our first time "posh" camping a great experience from Julie & John.

Stayed for the weekend a week or so ago as me and my friend Dan were on a munro bagging expedition in the area, i have to say, absolutely fantastic, clean everything, electricity to our tents, breakfast was outrageously good, the kindling kit for the fire was awesome and the friendly service was the icing on the cake. I really hope these guys do really well, they thoroughly deserve too. I would definetly come back, the place was immaculate the whole weekend! Awesome!

User

Stayed for 1 night while motorcycling the nc250. A cute wee place, lovely clean and spacious toilets/showers plus wash up area and Tea shed Pods were great with a lovely view down to the river. We were really tempted to cook our supper on the fire pit but as it was our anniversary and I didn’t feel like going shopping for food, went into Ballater instead for a fab meal at India on the Green, as recommended by our kind hosts. Just to note ...the driveway is gravel and on a slope which Iain was quick to point out in case we preferred to leave our bikes at the top. I had only passed my test the day before, but decided to try and it was fine!

User

Nicole and Iains lovely place completely overwealmed us! Spectacular views, amazing walks, cosy comfortable pods, nature right op close and hospitality beyond what we had expected. This is 5-star glamping and far above other places I have tried of similar kind:). We higly recommend Howe of Torbeg and their kind and helpful host!

Lovely location, to sit by the fire at the end of the day with the sound of running water in your ears, and watch the beautiful sunset with good friends, what more could you ask for! Lovely clean facilities, super friendly hosts!

User

Just back from a lovely 2 night stay at Howe of Torbeg. The glamping pod was super cosy and very clean! The toilets and showers were also spotless. Nicole was great - she showed us around the site and gave us lots of info about the surrounding area when we checked in. The weather stayed dry for both nights so we enjoyed cooking outside thanks to the large fire pit.

User

Had a fabulous stay this week with my husband and 2 little ones. Nicole made us very welcome. The pod was fabulous and setting perfect. The firepit was great and the showers/toilets were immaculate. Loved it. Didn't want to leave. Thanks you for the break.

Gorgeous campsite! The setting is so beautiful, pods feel quite plush and very well appointed.
