IAA Council members and three local Moray Architects visited the new Rogers Stirk Harbour designed Macallan Distillery at Craigellachie: ‘Distilling for the 21st Century’ as they put it, and an amazing, beautifully detailed, Cathedral like series of spaces. This is what you can buy with a budget, north of £100M.

We are progressing conservation and renovation works on the Helmsdale War Memorial, an imposing structure above the river Helmsdale. The work includes repair and refinishing of the large clock faces and relighting of the monument.

We have recently completed the repair and conservation of Dores War memorial. This unusual 1921 Arts and Crafts gateway memorial to 18 Highlanders who died in WW1 incorporated ceramic and terracotta panels designed and made by then local artist Mary Fraser-Tytler. Restoration work to repair the arch and reinstate the terracotta panels was funded by the Centenary memorials restoration Fund and was specified and overseen by our Conservation Consultant Colin Munro. The results are impressive and well worth a visit.
The arch will be officially rededicated next month.

We’re designing a new house for a site in Poolewe, overlooking Loch Ewe and the fine Northwest Highlands - contemporary Architecture which respects and reinterprets traditional West Highland building forms.

Submitted for planning consent, this serviced apartment development involves redevelopment of the B-listed Ross House and design of a newbuilt apartment block on the adjoining site on Ardross Terrace, one of the most distinguished streets in Inverness. It provides a rare opportunity to combine contemporary Architecture with careful conservation and remodelling.

IAA Awards 2018
We haven't just entered our larger projects for this year's IAA Awards. While small, this carport structure in Newtonmore nonetheless provided an opportunity to consider a multi-layer timber structure.

Architectural Technologist, Sylwia, as been with HRI/M for exactly one year today and so we are celebrating with some Polish gingerbread and hoping for many more years!

IAA Awards entry #2…
For something completely different to our first entry, here is the completed MeyGen tidal power PCU (power conversion unit) building at Ness of Quoys near John o’Groats. Warning notices read ‘danger of death, keep out’.. there’s a lot of high voltage power in there!
