Myself & my husband have just had a beautiful meal & its 5 stars all the way. The service was amazing & the food was just beautiful. I would highly recommend the king prawn cocktail & hunters chicken, so lovely that I even finished my husbands off. The only complaint I had was I was too full to try the Eton mess pudding which you don't see on menus very much anymore, so I will need to come back another time to have my eton's mess. Thank you very much, I have recently been ill & I was really looking forward to coming out for a meal & it was so much more than I expected. Looking forward to coming again soon

User

Lovely pub with friendly staff and excellent food.

User

I think that this pub is fantastic. Had a one off visit as in the area, and found staff to be warm and friendly and the manager to be amazing, couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely call in again if back in the area and would highly recommend anybody else to do the same

User

Should be a great local place but often when you go and pick from the menu you then discover that dish is not on tonight. Very disappointing. Makes us choose else where now as a result

User

On that particular visit, I was not impressed with the service or the time it took for our meals to arrive, we were told they were short staffed, but at our table we had 4 adults, 2 teenagers a 2 year old and a 8 month baby, it took almost 1 hour before our meals were served, some were ok others left a lot to be desired, one meal was returned twice in the end we told them to forget it, not your usual standard.

User

I would have give more stars but for on asking what had they on the menu for Burns Night !!! The answer was nothing yes nothing .come on very disappointed mind the staff sounded from the east of the EU

User

Call in at lunchtime with the wife and daughter for a bit of lunch as it was convient to home as we had to rush off again. We had the £4:99 one course lunch which was lovely and filled the stomach. They had the fire lite and everything was nice and cosy.

User

Went there yesterday (Friday) asked for a sirloin steak ? Sorry we are out of them!!! Ok I will have Ribeye then ? Sorry we are out of them !!! Finally I ask for a rump steak. Oh yes we have them. So on a Friday early evening about 6 pm. No steaks !!!! Really. ( just to say the rump steak was full of fat. More than normal ). Sorry won't be hurrying back there

User

Gone downhill rapidly recently. Regularly go in and there’s one member of bar staff abandoned by their management and working alone. Not the bar staffs fault, each and every one of them tries their damdest, but you can be waiting a long time for food and if anyone else is waiting for a drink it just mounts up on the unfortunate bar staff. We won’t be back until it returns to normal, which is a shame as we have been regulars for a few years now.

User

After having a meal tonight, I have to say I was very disappointed. Ate our starters and main course which was all fine. Finished eating at 18.00 and looked forward to our deserts. After waiting for 50 mins, I went to ask where the desserts were. Got told that they would go and find out, only to notice that the guy who originally served us had finished and was sitting having a drink, obviously our order had been forgotten about. Within 2 mins our desserts were brought to us, profiteroles were still solid and frozen in the middle and the custard and apple pie were stone cold. Desserts must have been sitting in the kitchen all that time. Took the profiteroles back to the bar to tell them that they were still frozen and the guy behind the bar (lee) basically ignored us and continued to pour a pint (for a colleague). When I challenged him I got a grunt from him and was basically ignored again. I would have gladly accepted an apology, but none was given. Fair to say, we won't be visiting the hunters trust again if this is the great service that is given.

User

Went last night order the three course the service was poor one wee guy on the bar taking food and drinks when the food came it was not nice and cold lovely place but not enough staff to deal with the customer two staff on I felt sorry for them won't go back

User

Went here with my mum and her workmates yesterday. They booked a table which was given to a different party so we had to wait for another.

I'm 26 and was refused service without ID by someone who I believe is younger than myself.

The order was messed up, there were 3 steaks asked for; a medium, a surf and turf and a very well done. The very well done was put in the surf and turf instead of separate so both people were not happy, one for getting an overcooked steak, the other for not receiving at all until they confronted a member of staff and had to wait until everyone else had finished before receiving their meal.

The staff behind the bar also seemed to be new and didn't have a clue what they were doing.

Overall not an enjoyable experience.

User

Well this may take a while

1. Table booked for 8 people + N043 7.30PM

2. Order at the bar with people inbetween our order there for meant food arrived at all diffrent times! Not just 5 or 10mins but so bad that 2 of the table went onto mains before 2 even got there starter.

3. Last lot of food finally came but then they said it was a mistake, 10mins later reappeared with same plates. (Now cold)

4. Now probably 9pm, so hungry just didn't make fuss and the steak like a bouncy ball but thought ok at least we have a free desert with booking email confirmation?

5. Go with order for the table same booking table No.43 and get told kitchen is shut.

6. Well without angry emoji or swearing, let's just say I'm a bit upset!!!!!

So get the manager and it was the most uncomfortable complaint I've ever experienced, although he blamed the fault of the new staffing and it took so long to serve etc he would get us desserts! Great I say, then I present my email for free desert with main meal order of table booking?

Guess what? Manager says no it's for ONE!

Eh really? No no and no! Manager tries to argue the T&C's

7. Never been so disgusted, the food was so awful but I was willing to let it go so not to spoil my friends birthday meal and thought the dessert would redeem the poor service etc but I guess Customer care isn't a priority any more?

If i could rate this establishment a big fat "O" I would!!!!

NEVER AGAIN WILL ANY OF US BE BACK #SICK Waste of what was spent around 250quid including drinks.

User

Well I would like to eat here,,,,,, I first tried away back in October to book a table online for the festive menu for 6 people but received no communication back. I then tried to make a booking over the phone and was abruptly told to call back the next night! I did complain and to be honest a really nice manager called me back however by this time I had booked with somewhere else. Forward to December where we decided to try again and book another meal for 10th December fo r 3 people. We were told they were not taking bookings for tables of any less than 10 people and it was a case of first come served. This is all very well if you are centre of town however we wanted a 1pm lunch. Also one member of of our party is 81 yrs old and suffers from dementia. Any way I have now booked again with another local restaurant and will not ever try the hunters or will I recommend

User

The food was terrible

Burnt nachos with hardly any sauces

Burnt garlic bread

Greasy fish

Puddings was stale

My daughter spilt all of her juice and never got a replacement i had to pay for another one.

The sevice was terrible too

Only one guy at the bar

And a stressed out waiter/chef

I wont be coming back

User

Stopped here for lunch today purely because the Toby Carvery down the road was queued out the door and we were on a bit of a schedule. Big mistake! I ordered a King Prawn Cocktail to start and the "bed of crisp leaves" turned out to be literally 5 or 6 wispy pieces of rocket and I think it's the smallest prawn cocktail I've seen in my life, three bites and it was finished! Thought I'd give them a second chance to change my opinion when my main arrived......baked potato with cheddar and 'house slaw'......how could they possibly go wrong with that?? Well.....a very small potato arrived and you couldn't even see the minuscule amount of cheese which was under a small dessert spoon size portion of the 'house slaw'. Before I tasted it, I mentioned to staff that usually baked potatoes have fillings that actually FILL the potato and could I please have some more cheese and coleslaw. Another big mistake! I should have tasted it first......'cheddar' was tasteless, rubbery mozzarella and the slaw looked and tasted like yesterday's left over side salad chopped up with a tiny bit mayo mixed in. I've never seen coleslaw with limp lettuce before and hope to never again! It was truly awful and tasteless. I sent it back to be informed "that's how we do it" so take my advice and please rethink that one! You'd be better to buy in the cheapest, worst coleslaw you can find, and it would be 100% better than the crap that was served up to me and some actual cheddar would improve things drastically! In fairness, the sandwich I had as a replacement arrived quickly and was ok. We now know why the Toby was stowed out and Hunter's Tryst deserted! We won't be back.

User

SO.. went for a meal with Neil tonight at Hunters Tryst... went for the set menu 3 course meal..I had soup of the day that tasted like stock with some curry powder, then I had the beef and red wine lasagne..it was burnt black, to the point I couldn't get it out the wee dish onto the plate, it was welded on....complained to manager so he said it would be 10 minutes for a new one....15 minutes later out comes the new one, managed to scrape some of it onto my plate but at least an inch of the bottom was burnt black...complained to manager again and he says.......'' eh, it's baked goods, that's how it comes'', I said there is a great difference between baked and cremated, your charging for it so it should be edible... he came back a few minutes later and says they will refund the price of the lasagne when we leave.........even the apple pie was very dark round the edges......so the moral of the story is......DON'T order any baked goods from Hunters Tryst as they will come cremated...... not a good first experience, being a chef myself I know how to ''bake'' goods till they are cooked, not charcoal, needless to say we will not be back

User

Paid a visit to Hunters Tryst and it was followed by a fantastic meal. Fair enough the meal was a Toby Carvery since Hunters Tryst had run out if chicken and pork (at 1330 on a Sunday) and we left. No mention of this on arrival and the Sunday roast menus were on the table as normal but if you can't be bothered to reorder food for the place why bother removing the menus that don't apply, I mean I enjoyed sitting down to the pretence off a lunch time meal , testing the seats and getting a feel for the atmosphere before leaving 10 minutes later. First and last time I've "ate" there, shall just go straight to Toby C next time

User

Have had dinner here quite a lot, went back today and I had fish and chips. The chips were absolutely saturated in salt and the fish just tasted greasy. I told the waiter about the chips and he just said "they are just seasoned" this was beyond seasoned. I couldn't eat them but he said they always salt them. Rubbish. Have never experienced this. Salt and pepper are on the table so you can add yourself.

Will not be going back if policy is now to cover everything in salt.

Also agree with previous review about the prawn cocktail. Miniscule amount and clearly just cheap bread with it.
