'Crime fiction at its best is telling us about ourselves and the world around us. It's giving us big moral quandaries and questions to ask about what we would do in these situations'
Watch again: Ian was on Sky News this morning to discuss Rebus, great crime fiction and In a House of Lies

Rebus returns... in just 7 days!
Ian's No.1 bestseller In a House of Lies launches in paperback in 1 week, on 30 May 2019.
After a body is discovered and an old case re-opened after more than a decade, it seems everyone involved in the original investigation has something to hide. None more so than John Rebus...
... He's the only man who knows where the trail may lead – and that it could be the end of him.

Ian has donated his literary archive, including correspondence with authors like J K Rowling, Iain Banks and Ruth Rendell, to the National Library of Scotland.
He's handed over around 50 boxes of documents, including his own manuscripts with handwritten annotations. It includes the original manuscript for his first Rebus novel Knots and Crosses, which was partially written at the library and includes scenes set in its corridors.
“It seems fitting, as well as a thrill and an h...onour, that my archive should find a permanent home there.”

"I’ve got this guy in his mid-late 60s who doesn’t have a warrant card, can’t blithely walk into any police station and get past the front desk. So if he wants to be a detective, he’s got to find ways past that. I really enjoy that challenge – it keeps me on my toes."
