Really quick and easy CHICKEN CURRY for dinner tonight. . It literally takes 10 minutes to prepare and cook 👇🏻 . 470 calories ... 40g protein 40g carbs 15g fat . A wee throwback to when Nick Ling completed his 12 week challenge 👏🏻💪🏻 . "As some of you know I have always been a keen participant of the gym, however, I never really felt that I was achieving my goals. Over the last 12 weeks working with Gordon and Impact Fitness I can no longer say this. . Following an intense 5 day a week programme and food plans I have noticed a significant change. Along with the programmes, Gordon has been in constant contact giving me encouragement as ...well as punishment during our weekly personal training sessions.
Over the 12 weeks my weight increased to 95.6kg while my body fat percentage dropped to 11.7% meaning that I gained 6.7kg of muscle and lost 3.7kg of fat (over one stone of muscle gained and over half a stone of fat lost!) . How low do you go? . If you've got the flexibility go as low as you can. . If you don't have the flexibility then make sure you work on it.... . Believe it or not I find I'm stronger going deeper. If I was to try and shorten my range I wouldn't be able to lift as much. . The reason I find I'm stronger is because of the "stretch reflex" which helps create a rebound at the bottom of the squat. This allows me to drive upwards. PAUL MCDAID'S AMAZING STORY . In December 2010 Paul contracted swine flu, developing serious complications. He was in intensive care for 16 days in an induced coma on a ventilator for that time and also underwent a tracheotomy. . He was in hospital for 8 weeks and following that was unable to do anything for himself. He was in a wheelchair for some months and therefore unable to exercise.... . Once out of the wheelchair Paul continued to stay physically weak often finding himself out of breath while also encountering issues with his strength and balance. Not only was his physical state affected but also his mental state. His confidence was rocked and he just wasn’t the same boy. He also gained a great deal of weight. . A year after his illness Paul’s parents Chris and Theresa decided that a fitness regime was in need to help Paul regain his strength. . Paul had his first session in the gym with Gordon in December 2011. The progress he has made is absolutely unbelievable. He’s able to run on the treadmill. On the cross trainer he manages to ramp his speed up to 11 km/h! His balance has improved so much that he’s able to perform step ups onto a BOSU. He squats 35kg, deadlifts 35kg and benches 25kg – all for 15 reps! He’s also managed to shed over 2 stone – not bad for a guy who’s 4 ft 8! . All his hard training culminated in a day to forever cherish when he ran a leg of the Queen's Baton Relay along Ayr road in the build up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (see photo). . Paul is now a regular fixture in the gym. He not only trains with Gordon and Gavin every week but he also uses the gym with his carers as well as swimming regularly. The members are very fond of him – he’s built up a real fan base! . He really is a credit to himself and his family. He’s also a great example of someone who was up against the odds and through determination and will power has managed to turn his life around. We’re all immensely proud of him! "Sometimes we need a little boost..." . My client came in for our training session last night feeling a bit low. He didn't have a very good week in both diet and exercise and to add to his sense of doom he knew we had measurements to do. At this point he was unaware how good his results were going to be!!! . He'd worked so hard over the past 12 weeks yet he was disappointed that the last 7 days hadn't been great so he was feeling flat and felt he'd undone some of his good wor...k. . It's at this point you have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. When we started 12 weeks ago he was sedentary and his diet was very poor. He took the brave step of hiring a PT and then managed to hit all his workouts and nutrition targets with absolute focus and determination...then he had what he called a "bad" week. It transpires that his "bad" week consisted of the gym 3 times and a binge on pizza and chocolate so looking back to before he started training this would have been an exceptional week!!! . Sometimes you've got to put things into perspective and see how far you've come. EVERYONE has their ups and downs but it's how we react that makes the difference. One bad week isn't going to make any difference at all. The same as one good week isn't going to make a difference either. The best thing to do is draw a line under it and move on and make sure that you have a CONSISTENT run of good days, weeks and months. . His results prove that if you put in the work you're going to reap the rewards. It might look like some futuristic body charging port where I can plug myself in overnight and recharge but it's actually called Freestyle Libre and I use it to manage my diabetes. . I use my phone to scan my arm where my blood glucose level is instantly displayed. It also provides me with an abundance of information for analysis and diabetes management. . I've had Type 1 Diabetes for 21 years and the advancements over the last couple of decades have been tremendous. What's i...ncredible is our NHS provide this system for FREE helping change the lives of diabetics all over the UK allowing us better control of our condition and enabling us to avoid all sorts of serious complications. . Being a Personal Trainer and a very active person this piece of technology has been invaluable to me. I've only been using it for a few months but I can now say I totally rely on it. It's great apart from the odd weird look and people telling me they didn't realise I was a smoker (it resembles a nicotine patch - do I look like a smoker?!) My usual response is I used to smoke 40 a day but I'm trying to kick the habit 😜 . The reason I'm posting this is to show appreciation for the NHS and acknowledge how lucky we are to live in a country where health care is free (this prescription alone would cost £100 per month otherwise). We are often asked about what snacks we should be eating. Making poor snack choices really can affect calorie intake and macronutrient balance. Here's a selection of snacks I rely on throughout the week along with a rough portion guide (from left to right): . PROTEIN BASED - Arbonne Vanilla Vegan protein (2 scoops - Alesto Protein Balls (1 packet)... - Cooked Chicken (half packet) - One Boiled egg - Nature Valley protein bar . FAT BASED - (SMALL!) handful of raw nuts - Alesto "Punchy Protein Nuts" - 85% Dark Chocolate (1 square) for those choc addicts out there! . CARB BASED - Crownfield no added sugar cereal bar - Portion of any fruit. For some reason fruit gets bad press because of the sugar content but it's natural sugar in the form of fructose AND it's low in calories AND it's good for you!! . I do all my shopping in Lidl so you'll find it all in there. These are easily accessed snacks which require very little thought process.
