Overview
The mission of International Voluntary Services (IVS) is to promote peace, justice and understanding through volunteering.
IVS (www.ivsgb.org) is a UK-registered charity that, since 1931, has been finding short- and long-term placements for volunteers from the UK and from overseas.
... IVS has an office-base in Edinburgh with a small complement of staff but it has a national and international scope of work. IVS is governed by a Board of Directors (otherwise called Trustees). We are seeking to diversify the representation on our Board in respect of age, ethnicity, gender and social class and we have some vacancies that we are seeking to fill.
We particularly welcome applications from representatives of minority ethnic groups, from young people who wish to build a career path but have time to learn from and contribute to the governance of a highly respected charity, and from individuals who share our desire to promote peace through volunteering. Joining our governance team represents an opportunity to make a difference at a challenging time for IVS specifically and for volunteering in general.
We have identified some skill areas that will enhance the range of expertise of our Board and that are necessary for achieving our objectives. We seek Trustees who ideally who have one or some of the following high priority skills, aptitudes and/or areas of interest:
Marketing (including use of social media and internet technology) Human Resource Management Public Relations Other desirable areas of interest include:
Social Enterprises (for commercial volunteering) Youth Sector connections Qualitative Monitoring and Evaluation
IVS Board members are allocated specific responsibilities and are expected to commit to giving at least 10 hours per month to IVS on a voluntary, unremunerated basis.
Board meetings are usually held at 3-month intervals, mainly in the Edinburgh office although sometimes in York or London. The Annual General Meeting may be held at other locations.
