International Voluntary Service

About International Voluntary Service

International Voluntary Service (IVS) is a peace organisation working for sustainable development of local and global communities worldwide. Founded in 1931, IVS is recognised by the United Nations as the United Kingdom's oldest international volunteering organisation. For more than 80 years, IVS' mission has been to promote peace, justice and understanding through volunteering. Today, IVS has a worldwide network of like-minded branches and partner organisations that support mutual exchange of volunteers to work on projects of direct benefit to local communities.  Based in Edinburgh, we work directly with our global partners to develop each project after a local need is discovered. IVS is an accredited sending organisation for the European Solidarity Corps. Fully-funded by the EU, these short- and long-term volunteering projects allow UK residents aged 18-30 the opportunity to volunteer overseas for free. Accommodation, food and travel expenses are provided, plus volunteers receive a monthly subsistence allowance throughout the duration of their project.
