About Inverness Angling Club

The Ness is a great river and a joy to fish. We look forward to casting a line with you. And we're always keen to hear about your experiences on our river.

Inverness Angling Club Description

The River Ness is located at the very heart of the Scottish Highlands. Its sparkling waters run some six miles from Loch Dochfour – adjoining Loch Ness, home of the fabled monster 'Nessie' – through the centre of the City of Inverness to the salt waters of the Beauly Firth. This beautiful river has built a solid reputation for its fine catches of salmon, sea trout and brown trout which have delivered years of pleasure for the region's anglers and visitors from many parts of the UK and overseas.

Inverness Angling Club is fortunate to have the rod fishings for some three miles of water from the estuary to the Clachnahagaig Stone at the top of the Red Braes. The lower beats, in the centre of the city, are dominated by the picturesque Inverness Castle from which Flora Macdonald's statue gazes west to the Isle of Skye.

Visiting anglers are guaranteed a warm Highland welcome to the River Ness and the fishings managed by Inverness Angling Club. It's a river famed for its salmon and grilse, with a five-year average of 228 fish up to 2014, and the skills of its Speycasters.

The best place to start is at the club's Little Isle Hut on the west bank of the river, a short walk or drive upstream from St Andrew's Cathedral. You'll always find members there during the peak of the season, from July to October. Hospitable by nature, they'll offer you a cup of tea or coffee while briefing you on catches and the best pools to fish. And if you want to fish for a day or a week, our river watchers will provide the required permits.
