Inverness Harriers Description

Inverness Harriers Amateur Athletics Club (IHACC) is the largest Athletics Club in the North of Scotland and caters for all abilities and aspects of the sport of athletics - from track and field to cross country, road running and hill running. We have established Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 20 as well as Senior training groups including a friendly, active joggers section.

Main club training nights are at Queens Park Stadium, Inverness on Tuesday and Thursday nights 7-8. 30pm with our joggers meeting on a Wednesday night.

The club is run by a committee of unpaid volunteers - typically President, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Secretary, Welfare Officer and 12 other elected members.

All our club coaches have gone through UK Athletics Coaching Courses to obtain a UKA coach license which is a statutory requirement to coach athletics at various levels. All qualified coaches have been disclosed by the CRB (Central Registered Body in Scotland).

YDL TODAY Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help today, at our home YDL match. Thanks to our officials without whom we would loose points before we even start competing and our parent helpers who contribute to that total as well. Thanks to our donations of sandwiches, baking etc remember if your athlete is part of the YDL team, to bring along sandwiches etc to give the officials, parent helpers their lunch, our way of saying thank you. Coaches thank you for yo...ur time given today and behind the scenes coordinating selection and coaching throughout the year. Our young athletes good luck today in your events, remember this is a team event, you may not be in your chosen event, but the points you gain all go towards our placing at the end of today. Hope the sun comes out today 😎☀️ TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK Scottish Athletics High Life Highland Inverness Area Sports Council

YDL Sunday 19th May 2019 Parents helpers required to assist officials.
WE REQUIRE PARENT HELPERS FOR TOMORROW.
... In the YDL league series (3 league meetings) the athletes compete as a team to try to qualify for the final in Grangemouth (only the top 2 teams qualify). Inverness Harriers have up until last year qualified for the finals but the competition is more competitive now following the acceptance into the league of the joint Island Select. Points are allocated depending on the finishing position in each race of the athletes.
These events do not existing without the officials (all volunteers ). To make sure that events take place and there are enough officials, points are also allocated to participating teams for the number of officials (supplemented by parent helpers) they put forward on the day.
In the first league meeting in Aberdeen at the beginning of May Inverness Harriers were 4th overall. Had we the maximum number of officials and parent helpers we would have been 3rd (only 1.5 points off 2nd place).
Last year 2018 we lost out in a place in the final due to not meeting the maximum points for officials.
This why it is important for parent assistance.
Please either reply to this post or advise Ian MacDonald on the morning of the event if you can assist. Normally your assistance is required in the field events (raking the long jump pit, moving the bar on the high jump or retrieving a field event item (shot, discus, javelin or hammer).

NORTH DISTRICT TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS - QUEENS PARK 11/12 MAY
The club again finished a very clear top of the medals table at the weekend's North District Championships at the Queens Park with 45 gold, 32 silver and 28 bronze. This represents 36% of the events contested and was over three times as many as any other club. Congratulations to all medal winners and to everyone who competed. Full results can be found here, on the far bottom left of the page:-

However our gold medal tally was 11 fewer than last year, although it is a little difficult to compare first places in this year's senior and under 20 Open Graded format with gold medals in last year's corresponding championships. Also, neither of the championship records set in what was a lower key meeting than of late fell to Inverness athletes. The effect of the change to the open graded format on the senior and under 20 turnout is not yet totally clear, but initial evidence suggests that there may have been a decline in numbers and standards, especially among the men. In terms of other championships, we now look forward to the North Schools at the end of this month, the Scottish Schools early next month and various National events later in the summer. First set of photos from North District Championships. Thank you Grant Nairn

MENS LEAGUES REPORT Yesterday saw the first round of the Mens’ League in a cold and windy Grangemouth. We appeared to start the day at a disadvantage by having a small team of ten, only two of which were actually seniors. We lacked hurdlers and distance runners which meant we were conceding points straight away but, as has become the tradition with Harriers Mens teams, the individuals who turned up took on the task manfully and gave it their all. In the jumps Alister Mackay ...secured a 2nd in the pole vault. Alexander Mackay and Calum Tynam finished 3rd and 5th in the Long jump, with Alister and Gordon Manson coming 5th and 4th respectively in the High jump. Well done to Calum Tynam for filling a gap and giving the Triple jump his best shot – it was another 6 points in the bag. There’s potential there Calum! Our throwers were as solid as ever. Matty Papp scored three seconds in the “A” string shot, discus and javelin respectively adding to Nick Stone’s third in the hammer. While in the “B” string Andrew Bowsher and Alexander Mackay contributed firsts in the discus and shot, along with Andrew’s solid performances in the hammer and javelin. Our single entry in the hurdles came up trumps with Ruaridh Munro winning the 400 while Luke Davidson shone in the 800m running into an impressive second place amongst a mature field. Ruaridh also competed in the other sprints alongside Luke, Robin Sneddon, Alexander Mackay and Gordon Manson, where they gathered valuable points towards the day’s total. Unfortunately Luke’s hard earned points in the 400m were forfeit due to an error by the team manager when Matty Papp had to withdraw from the “A” string 400m due to an achilles strain. Achilles strain or not Matty turned out for the 4x100 relay with Alister & Alexander Mackay and Robin Sneddon. Matty and the (young) lads 😉 were rightly rewarded with 2nd place. They had a brilliant run. Following on in the 4x400 Calum, Luke, Gordon and Ruaridh came a very creditable 4th , both teams looking very slick. Considering the average age of the team and our limited numbers the results were very encouraging. With more athletes filling the empty spaces we can do even better so the future of the team in League 1 should be secure. Well done boys!

Can all athletes who competed at the RAM League meet today please remember to return your numbers to your group coach (if in u11s or u13s) or keep it safe for use at the next meet (u15s and above). The numbers issued are used throughout the season and we do not get replacements.
Also, a wee reminder to all athletes who borrowed club vests at recent meets to return them to either Coach Karin or Coach Grant at your earliest convenience.
If you do not own your own vest yet, you can place an order for one using the kit order form (available at www.invernessharriers.org.uk/club-kit/) and pass to Evon Watts who is down Tues/Thurs training nights at 630. Evon carries a stock of vests with her every time she is at the track.

British University Champioships Today in Bedford Mary Flockhart finished 10th in the University Championships competing for the University of the Highlands and Islands. In windy, blustery weather Mary threw 35.22,although not a PB Mary worked hard to get the Javelin to fly that distance. On her way to the final Mary picked of a number of higher ranked athletes. Well done from Inverness Harriers. University of the Highlands and Islands #thinkuhi
