Good evening from the Isle of Harris as summer slowly slips away. While the weather outside becomes a little wilder, a warm welcome at our distillery fireside always awaits.
October visitors should note our tour times will change again at the end of the month as we look towards the quieter seasons here in the islands. Days and times can be found on our website.
Meantime, our doors are open daily from 10am - 5pm with a Canteen and Shop full of good things. And if you can't be ...with us in person, we hope you can be with us in spirit...

Long before the Isle of Harris Distillery was founded the people of the Outer Hebrides were making beautiful things, created with craft and care.
Harris Tweed has been woven in these islands for over 100 years, so we’re delighted to weave our two stories together as we launch ‘The Harris Tweed Project’.
At the heart of this endeavour lies a competition to design a unique Isle of Harris Distillery tweed as part of our Year of Young People 2018 activities.
... We will be inviting school pupils across the Outer Hebrides to design the final pattern and working with the winner to bring their ideas to fruition as a very special length of Harris Tweed cloth.
Learn more about the project and all these plans over on this week's Journal story...

Good evening from the Isle of Harris, where we're enjoying the first Martinis of the weekend in our beautiful new glassware.
To celebrate their release we have created three official recipes using our Isle of Harris Gin and Sugar Kelp Aromatic Water, and you'll find each of them on the gift set boxes.
Here is the Isle of Harris Gin Martini #3...
... 75ml Isle of Harris Gin 2.5ml Wermod Great British Vermouth 2-3 Drops of Sugar Kelp Aromatic Water Unwaxed Lemon
Method.
1. Peel a long sliver of lemon and then set aside. 2. Fill a mixing glass with ice. 3. Coat the inside of a chilled Isle of Harris Martini Glass with the vermouth. 4. Add Isle of Harris Gin and Sugar Kelp Aromatic Water to the mixing glass. 5. Stir with a bar spoon for 60 seconds until thoroughly chilled. 6. Julep strain the mixture into the Isle of Harris Martini Glass. 7. Pinch and roll the lemon peel to express its oils over the surface of the spirit. 8. Add the peel to the drink as a garnish. 9. Enjoy!
A bone dry Isle of Harris Gin Martini made with Great British Vermouth, a crisp, scented vermouth from Dalmeny Estate near Edinburgh. Hand-produced in small batches, using 24 locally sourced and foraged herbs and flowers, the sustainable herbal heritage of this estate dates back nearly a thousand years, to the time of Queen Margaret. Another serious and strong serve, so please enjoy its pleasures slowly and in moderation.
Have a great weekend, whatever is in your glass tonight!

Tonight, we're pleased to launch another of our ongoing projects, helping to connect you with our island, community and heritage.
The Harris Tweed Project is now underway, as we begin the journey to create a unique Isle of Harris Distillery tweed to be produced in early 2019.
A special pattern will be designed by local school children from across the Outer Hebrides as part of the Year of Young People 2018.
... Along the way we'll be meeting local weavers and the people behind the cloth as we collaborate with the Harris Tweed Authority and Harris Tweed Hebrides.
Lots more to come, but meantime here's to craft and creativity celebrated through the the weaving of two great island stories and our shared ambitions.

Connection is important to us, so we were delighted to welcome the team from Delfont Mackintosh Theatres to our island recently to give them a taste of our island spirit.
London theatre goers will already know that our Isle of Harris Gin is served in all their great venues, from the multi-award winning 'Hamilton' at Victoria Palace to Les Miserables at Queen's Theatre.
So, after their journey from the West End to the Western Isles, it was our turn to put on a show and the Isl...e of Harris shone like the star it always is.
We thank Sir Cameron Mackintosh and his team for their ongoing support and enthusiasm for our work!

It's always great to hear about new enterprises here in the Isle of Harris.
So, we were delighted to connect with young local entrepreneur Andrew Reeve who has recently launched Roam Outer Hebrides.
If you'd like to see our island from a unique perspective then his Sea Kayaking trips will reveal plenty of hidden secrets along the way.
... And it looks like there's always room on board for a bottle of Isle of Harris Gin to toast the end of a good day's paddling...

We're very pleased to be a finalist for 'Gin Distillery of the Year' at the forthcoming Scottish Gin Awards 2018.
It's been an incredible last 12 months for us, as we've taken our island spirit from its Isle of Harris home and shared it with a wider world.
None of this would be possible without the hard work of the men and women who make up the distillery team.
... So, here's a wee video with just a few of them telling our story, courtesy of the Scottish Gin Awards film-makers.
It starts with our managing director Simon on his weekly motorbike commute and rolls on from there...

In February of this year, we shared some stunning images of our Isle of Harris Gin in the southerly reaches of the Antarctic with adventurer Andrew Harris and his expedition.
Tonight, our beautiful bottle has reached the far north, being served among the pristine icebergs and ice flows of remote Nuussuup Kangia in Greenland, thanks to our friend Hope Blamire.
... From pole to pole, our island spirit continues to provide the purest of pleasures...
