What do you do when the temperature reaches 28degrees? Wild swimming in Knoydart of course. Great photo #livingaliveuk

We had a fantastic time in the Ivy Cottage in Knoydart. Loved the amazing views, the fire place, the nice chats with locals and the ever changing colors of the hills. The cottage is perfectly located to bike and hike from, or to just sit outside in the sun (we had 7 consecutive days of blue skies). We'll definitely return!

Not being big fans of the hustle and bustle of city breaks, visiting mainland Britain’s most remote county seemed like the ideal holiday for our little family. Ivy Cottage in Inverie was the perfect cosy retreat! The cottage catered for all our family needs: an inflatable toddler bed for our son; an espresso machine for my husband’s caffeine fix and a wonderful log burner that I curled up in front of as I got engrossed in my book.

We picked up a few walking brochures from the tourist information centre and we enjoyed all of them. Our son particularly enjoyed the ‘Knoydart in a nutshell’ route. The brochure has a list of animals to spot as you venture around the trail – Reuben enjoyed searching for them and ticking them off as we spotted them. The red deer are magnificent, as are the golden eagles, which we were so fortunate to see. Reuben was particularly thrilled when we saw dolphins and a seal on one of our ferry crossings. A truly magical experience for all nature enthusiasts. I must say, indulging in Ivy Cottage’s whirlpool bath after a nice stroll in Scotland’s great outdoors is heavenly! The perfect way to ‘wind down’ before snuggling up in front of a warm fire with a glass of wine.

An absolute must when staying at Ivy Cottage, is a visit to The Road’s End Café in Airor. It is a long walk/bike ride, but it is most definitely worth the effort. How to describe it? It is an old shack that has been converted into an intimate café. The menu is limited, but everything is homemade on site and tastes divine, all made from locally sourced produce! The ‘icing on the cake’ to this experience is that you can sit, gazing across the beach whilst watching the seals play on the sand! If, however the distance to the café puts you off, just a few hundred metres down the road of Ivy Cottage is a phenomenal pub and a café that provides a range of meals and snacks. Ideal!

Inverie is a gorgeous place to visit with breath-taking views of the Scottish mountains, surrounded by tranquil waters. The locals are all incredibly friendly and welcome visitors to fuel the revenue of the village. The farm shop has an honesty box and note pad for customers to note down their purchases. Where else have you visited in the UK where a thriving business exists governed by an honesty box?? Ivy cottage felt like a home away from home in an idyllic Scottish village setting. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
