I have very long hair and am very attached to it. I had been a faithful customer at one of the top salons in Glasgow (one that has a reputation as being one of the 'best,' if not the best, in Scotland). Needless to say, I don't want just anyone handling my hair. After years of deterioration in quality of cuts, color, and service, I was fed up and started looking for a new stylist this year. I scoured reviews and had visited some of the other 'top' salons in Glasgow sporadically over the years, but was never happy with the service or quality. I'm not going to fork out money at a salon with people moping around and giving attitude like I should be thankful for their mere existence.

I saw some of the reviews for James Hughes Salon and I was impressed (the pics of his work speak for themselves), so I somewhat cautiously decided to give him a try. The staff are friendly and welcoming upon arrival. James could tell I was a bit hesitant and weary of what he might do to my hair, and he was able to put me at ease very quickly. I don't even have to exaggerate when I say that he knew exactly what my hair needed in order for it to look thicker and healthier (without taking off too much). He was willing to compromise (on the length), he listened, and gave the impression he cared not only about the cut, but about the overall health of my hair. Listening is a very important feature that many stylists forget to do (or just neglect). James is very good at what he does and it shows―he's a gifted stylist without the ego.

I showed up early and watched James cut and color the hair of a few other customers. He's incredibly versatile and competent. He floated around his salon giving an older woman a lovely bob, coloring the hair of another woman and masterfully giving a guy a trim. James' personality was upbeat and friendly, and as I subtly observed him interact with customers, he seemed genuinely interested in his clients and wasn't fake or over the top with his energy. Simply put, he's a down-to-earth stylist who gives fabulous hair cuts. Needless to say, he's my new stylist! It pains me to say this, but his haircuts are worth more than what he charges. He gives quality cuts for a fraction of the price of other salons, which should make him very competitive in the market. As it's his name on his salon, he has lots to live up to, and he certainly does. I hope he continues to gain recognition in his field, because he deserves it.

P.S. My son also had his hair cut at the salon. Jordan cut my son's hair (his hair was below his shoulders). Jordan did a fantastic job. My son's hair is usually a mess and he's often mistaken for a girl, but not anymore! I'm sure it isn't the most exciting thing to have to cut kids' hair, but Jordan was friendly and interacted with my 7-yr-son like any other customer. James has a fantastic group of people working for him.

I'm a firm believer that reviews and customer feedback matters and I think that the overwhelmingly positive feedback and reviews James has received speaks for itself. Whether you are new to Glasgow or tired of your current salon (and looking for a change), I really recommend visiting James Hughes Salon. The quality, service, and staff are unbeatable, and a visit is worth every penny and more.
