Jessie Mac'S Description

AFFORDABLE LUXURY IN PERTHSHIRE

Jessie Mac's is a refurbished Victorian manse, with 7 bedrooms, offering a mix of self-catering hostel and bed & breakfast accommodation. We are a ten minute walk from Dunkeld and only 1 hour's drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow, with great public transport links. It's the perfect base to discover the mountains, waters, rich culture and heritage of Big Tree Country.

Whether you're looking for an affordable hostel room to share with friends or prefer a private room to yourselves, we can offer a warm welcome and a good night's rest. We have 3 private double rooms, 2 shared rooms with bunks and 2 family rooms, all ensuite. Our ground floor double room has wheelchair access; we are LGBT friendly and well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement in some private rooms. Guests have their own well stocked kitchen, drying room and bike shed.

Birnam and neighbouring Dunkeld are stunning Victorian and 18th century villages, quietly tucked away in the hills and forests of Perthshire. At the end of a long day's walking, cycling, fishing or exploring, come home to dry out, take a relaxing shower and put your feet up. You'll find a cosy lounge with good wi-fi connections, lots of quiet spaces to curl up with a book or to email home. Our large dining area and generously equipped kitchen for guests should make you feel right at home.

The Birnam Arts Centre, Beatrix Potter Garden, and the Birnam Hotel are all just a stone's throw from our door. It takes five minutes to walk to the famous Birnam Oak near the children's play park. Dunkeld Cathedral is 15 minutes’ walk away and the world-famous ospreys at Loch of the Lowes are just ten minutes’ drive away

There are around a dozen hotels, pubs, restaurants and cafes serving everything from basic bar snacks to fine dining. All are child-friendly and most allow dogs. You are unlikely to find more dog-friendly villages!

We're so lucky have red squirrels around here but only because organisations like Trees For Life are working hard to support them. They've got a chance to net £25K - but need your vote to win it. Please help. 🌰

Miserable weather calls for creative dog exercise. We make our own entertainment here!

It's the Merryburn but not as we know it. Our neighhouring B&B, the Merryburn is having an open day on Snday 14th October from 2-8pm. All are invited to pop in for a glass of wine or a cuppa a good old nosey to see how they've transformed the place. It's gorgeous. PLEASE SHARE

Please vote for Growbiz who are shortlisted in the first category. They are doing a wonderful job helping business start-ups and developing business networks for small rural businesses.

Don't forget the wonderful community growing project at @The Field have their stall on today outside Birnam Art Centre selling all sort of tasty veg and salad ingredients. Hurry along before midday (or catch them outside the Duchess Anne on Saturday morning)

Birnam's getting a facelift this week so parking is suspended out front until Fri 7th of October. You can drive through the village but not park. If you're staying with us you'll be fine as we've come to arrangement with the fabulous Milton Birnam Hotel so we've got permits to use their car park. Do you know just how FANTASTIC their pizzas are? Seriously, they're excellent.

Very warm welcome. Nothing too much trouble for the owners. Great first experience of hostelling for my boys and the homemade muffins were delicious.

User

User

Thank you so much for welcoming us so warmly in your beautiful and ideally equipped and located hostel. Everything was wonderfully thought through! and it is truly most probably the best place I've ever stayed in. So comfortable and welcoming, it truly felt like a "home from home" but with the added special treats and kind and efficient service that can only be enjoyed as a guest. I loved the recycling effort, the fabulous homemade muffins, the ready-to play instruments, lovely breakfast, the tea-cosies, animal figures and the friendliness and superb service of the hosts. I hope to be back sooner or later, thank you!!!!

Stayed at Jessie Mac's as part of a birthday weekend away and they could not have been more accommodating. Nice touch with a creme egg on our beds on arrival with it being easter. The service was excellent and very friendly, hostel was spotless, lounge is lovely and the beds were comfy. Breakfast was fantastic. Would highly recommend it and only £18 a night. Better than some hotels i've stayed in.

Spent a wonderful New Year at Jessie Mac's. Warm, comfortable, welcoming and well thought out. We made full use of the kitchen and dining room to celebrate the New Year, and the snow was just a great bonus!

User

Our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. For each breakfast the cook prepared delicious muffins and for my husband and me, since we're vegan, she prepared special vegan ones without dairy or eggs. There was a big living room that our group of 9 could gather in for a ceileigh in the evening.

Loved my stay here. Relaxed, super clean, homely and comfy. Have yet to find a better hostel. If there is one out there I'd like to know about it.

Great job guys :)

User

Love this place! Just spent a glorious weekend here and it was every bit as wonderful as my previous stay almost a year ago exactly. Glorious setting and very special hostel, homely, everything done with love and care. Thank you once again. Can't wait to come back.

User

Just back home from three great nights stay at Jessie Mac's, great hosts, comfy bed, relaxed atmosphere, great location just outside Dunkeld, superb breakfasts, chocolate and banana muffins........delicious! Would definitely stay again :)

I was at Jessie Mac's this weekend just past for the Scottish Storyteller's #StoryStramash. 15 of us met up here from all over Scotland.

We were treated to a very warm welcome, comfy beds and some really nice public rooms. It's ideally situated for exploring the local area and has loads of information available for visitors. It's also dog friendly yet has a couple of rooms that are dog-free zones for those with allergies.

I'd really recommend this place to all my friends. (Much nicer than any hostel I've ever stayed at!) Thanks for your hospitality folks! :D

User

I think this is our fifth year we've been coming here. I say it every time, but it's like coming home. Brenda and Dot make us so welcome, the accommodation is cosy and comfortable, delicious breakfasts and always home made muffins every day. We come up for the Perthshire Amber festival each year and wouldn't stay anywhere else.

User

I stayed here in May 2016. I loved it. I loved the house, My room was comfy and the ensuite bathroom a plus. Tea and yummies in the kitchen. Dot and Brenda were so nice. I only stayed two nights, but was lucky enough to see Brenda play her instruments at a local pub and it was awesome. My first trip to Scotland and I was able to do and see so many things and having hostesses like Dot and Brenda and the charm of Dunkeld and Birnam. Anyhow, I am rambling, I loved it there, you will love it there and I can't wait to go back. Thank you ladies.

User

Fabulous accommodation, and staff excellent.

Ideal location for many outdoor activities, sightseeing and for a relaxing break away.

Spotlessly clean accommodation, tastefully decorated and very comfortable.

Dot and her staff very helpful and obviously take great pride in their business. They pay attention to detail and this makes the ambience so homely and welcoming.

Great value for money and well worth a visit.
