About Jetx Engineering

JetX is a non-profit education organisation established in 2014 to provide a richer aerospace education experience and more!

Jetx Engineering Description

JetX Engineering is a club for Glasgow University jet engine enthusiasts. We're a team currently designing a medium-sized, operating turbofan engine with plans to 3D print the prototype and further work on the operational details of a fully functioning model. Established in September 2014, we are rapidly expanding and always welcome new members. New recruits will be given the opportunity to join a sub-team, specialising in a specific area of the project.

Within the project, students will have the opportunity to apply their existing knowledge on CAD and mechanics, as well as designing for manufacture and subsequent assembly of the prototype. The club also poses as a great opportunity for students to get involved with extracurricular activities, meet new friends and gain useful experience that could be beneficial for their future career.

The James Watt exhibition has welcomed hundreds of visitors in the first two weeks! Read more about how we got involved in the bicentenary celebrations and don't forget to pop in to the Glasgow University Library to see the model in action!

Well, you didn't see that coming, did you?! Thanks to our experience from the X-Plorer 1 & EC, the committee in charge of the James Watt bicentenary entrusted us with building a working, 3D-printed, model of the Boulton-Watt engine. We are so pleased with the outcome, which makes us wonder... if we were to build another historic engine model, which one should it be? 🤔

User

The end of March is fast approaching and we are stocking up on filament for... the start of a new project of course! But it's not a jet engine this time 🤔 As always, many thanks to the Formfutura - 3D printer filaments team for all the support!

On another non-technical note, we would like to give a shout out to the Glasgow Marrow team for their amazing work raising awareness for blood cancer around campus, as well as encourage students to join the bone marrow register! 💪 Drop in to have a chat with the team next week in the James Watt South!

Our new team kit has arrived and thanks to Banana Moon, it's all looking fantastic! 👌 Apart from our usual navy polos and a few t-shirts, we also designed a retro print with the X-Plorer 1 EC, which is a hit with both members and our lovely supporters!

An intensive 9-month development and manufacturing period for the X-Plorer 1 EC has come to an end! The EC enables us to demonstrate the engine's potential in research and the Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, University of Sheffield team in Sheffield to test and showcase their work on engine sensing and control systems. 🛫 Read more below...

The team is now up to their next challenge- introducing their first resin 3D printer through Lotus 3D Printers and you can now support their Kickstarter campaign! Extremely smooth and precise blades coming in 2019! 👌
