About John Muir Trust

A UK conservation charity dedicated to the experience, protection & repair of wild places.

John Muir Trust Description

The Trust takes its name and inspiration from John Muir (1838-1914), the pioneering, influential Scots-born American conservationist who was passionate about the wild. Muir dedicated his life to protecting wild places and he campaigned successfully for the establishment of National Parks to safeguard vast tracts of wild lands, including Yosemite Valley in California.

The John Muir Trust runs the John Muir Award, an educational initiative that encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with, enjoy and care for wild places. Read more at www. johnmuiraward.org.

We manage the land we own according to our wild land management standards, which focus on habitat improvement and encouraging a more natural landscape and ecosystem. See www. wildlandmanagement.org. uk for more.

Very impressed. Seen a little bit about the work in Yosemite National Park, and Sequoia, in December, and I'm a regular visitor to Loch Rannoch and Schiehallion. Love the shop and gallery in Pitlochry.

The John Muir Trust do a wonderful job of introducing youngsters to the outdoors, and engaging with nature. And in preserving Scotland's wild places for the future.

If you like walking the hills, do something tangible and join the Trust.

User

Thank you very much for the work on Suilven. For me the greatest view in Scotland from such an amazing mountain. Very many thanks to all involved.

I have recently been on the Leader Course for the John Muir Awards. It was well delivered, in a stunning setting and I learnt loads.

I am so glad I did this prior to delivering the Awards.

I organise activités for Home Educated children. This month I have started delivering the JMTA to no less than 70 children within the Essex and Suffolk home education groups. We are doing Family Awards as well as Discover and Conserve Awards.

The children are so engaged in their wild spaces and are enjoying the activities. Introducing the children to their Wild Space we did the John Muir 1000 step challenge, tree ID, bark rubbing. natural weaving. It was such fun.

Thank you for inspiring young people, families and me! I shall let you know how we are getting on with our Awards over the next few months.

I am from the families of McDonald and Kerrs of Knoydart and Camerons/Mcmillans from Lochaber.I have found the Muir information, pictures and videos trememdously moving.appreciate all your work.I would love nothing more than to come and help you--but lacking funds. Please keep up this important work

User

I am a long time admirer of Muir, and having made radio and T.V. outdoor programmes all over Scotland and in Ireland Canada and the Arctic, the opportunity to make a series for Radio Scotland in Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada was a real privilege. That was in 1998. I have since taken my resulting power point presentation around the country to enthusiastic audiences and Interest in John Muir grows apace, thanks to the wonderful work of the trust. Jimmie Macgregor.

User

Got my first John Muir award in college and it has got me so far, the work and effort that goes into the environmental projects is fantastic and I would love to work on for my next one

User

No mention of community partnership , house building for locals , then they have a policy of shoot to kill local community..... best rid of them under land reform . Scoland can do better for its fragile wildlands but more imporantly for the guys who live there.

User

Im hoping my ancestors ( grandad) croft that sits empty,

in remote part of northwest scotland, might be under the wing of John Muir

protection. How on earth can I find its owner when it doesnt even have an address?

Thankyou everyone for any assistance to find current 2018 OWNER?

User

This organisation is a disgrace and should be thrown out of Scotland, their indiscriminate killing of red deer on Knoydart and the policy of leaving the carcasses to rot on the hill shows their contempt for Scotland's iconic species and in turn the people of Scotland. To call themselves conservationists makes a mockery of the term.

User

You don't deserve 1 star. Disgusting, the indiscriminate culling of Deer and leaving Deer caucuses on location. One will have to ask Why? but of course we know why. This is nothing but murder!

User

Where is the zero rating for this so called trust?

I wonder what the powers that be would have to say if a privately owned estate slaughtered 80 plus Majestic Red Deer and left them to rot where they were slain?

This act of barbarism should be looked into by the RSPCA and this trust held to account for animal welfare crimes!

The public should be warned that you care not for our iconic wildlife and only care for your own pockets.

In my opinion, the government should shut you down.

User

This awful trust drags it's name sake through the mud. If John Muir could see the damage this trust causes in small communities all over Britain with its zero tolerance policy on deer control he would surely turn in his grave. You have severely damaged the natural wild lands of Scotland for many, many years to come and have left a trail of unemployment in small dependant rural areas behind you.

User

The manner in which these iconic native red deer where "culled" and thereafter treated would be illegal in just about every other country. From your website you claim to educate our children about wildlife . God help them .

The people who carried out this "cull" should have their FAC's revoked immediately and the go enters of the trust sacked .

User

Killing stags and leaving them to rot on the hill is disgusting. Totally lazy practice which shows no respect whatsoever to the animals. The 'stalkers' involved should be ashamed. Plenty of needy folk around who would have loved that prime venison. Hope you can't sleep at night...

User

If I could give no stars I would. You should be ashamed and listen to the people, YOU ARE A TRUST, butchering red deer and leaving them to rot........and I have read your replies, really? Left out there for Eagles.......excuses excuses, say sorry and change you practices quickly............you cannot get away with this.

User

I think it is a total disgrace what your trust has done how can shooting red deer on the hill and letting them rot on the hill. No respect for red deer at all and its happened before also what a disgrace
