About Jonah'S Place
Green design studio in the Scottish Borders
Jonah'S Place Description
Jonah's Place is a former chapel in Duns, in the Scottish Borders, now serving as a studio.
Its purpose has been lost in the mists of time but it has served a number of purposes since, and is now serving as a studio for a number of small businesses- from housing green design studio Annasach to sometime recording studio Chapel Records to Von Damm Designs- Stefanie Damm's interior design label.
The building is C listed and is believed to have formerly been a cow byre which had its (Scots slate) roof raised in around 1827 when the front plaque was put in. The blue foyer is a later addition.
During the restoration the massive stone floor slabs which still existed toward the back of the building were rescued and were relaid. The ceramic bricks of a toilet cubicle, as well as the cubicle door, were relocated into the WC area, and the exposed roof beams, which give the building its name, were left "as is" as a feature.
By appointment only.
