Joni Mackay Forest School Description
As a Freelance Forest School Practitioner my aim is to work with groups and individuals outdoors, helping them to develop their knowledge of the natural world as well as improve their overall health and well being. Through learning outdoors we develop practical skills, self confidence and resilience which support our ability to succeed when we return to the classroom, workplace and our day to day life. I deliver Forest School, Outdoor Education, Outdoor Play, Bushcraft and Natural Crafts sessions and workshops in and around the Glasgow area.

It was an absolute joy and an honour to return to Ardkinglas Estate and Scapa Fest 2019 this year as part of the Modern Wilder Women collective. We set up our workshops in the Tree House area and on Saturday morning I led the children of Scapa through an exploration of the 5 elements and the Celtic Tree Oghams. Each child then chose a piece of wood from a tree that they connected with and carved this into a magic wand or a pendant. Some then burned the ogham symbol onto the w...ood using ancient pyrography techniques over the open fire. As always the children had space to take each part of this workshop and experiment with it in their own way and as always they left us adults inspired. This was a busy session that was full of laughter, investigation, learning and creativity. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us over the weekend and to the entire Scapa Fest team for working so hard to create such a beautiful festival. 🙏
