I'm Laura, owner /founder /brain-child of Joy Tots.
Joy Tots is a place to play, inspire and create custom design products. A place with affordable and flexible keepsake services, venue hire, photography and class /workshops for the whole family.
I was on maternity leave with my first daughter Isla when got the entrepreneurial itch to start something new. I founded the company in late 2013.
I quickly found myself pregnant again when Isla was 7 months old and decided I had 10m to find a property, staff, funding and write a business plan. Instead of hiring 'mother's help' I decided to invest in my first employee, Monica, my business research assistant who then became my first official Joy Tots shop employee.
I have a background in building houses, photography, craft and design. My degrees are Interior Design and Interior Architecture. Pregnant and toting a baby around 24 /7, I worked with Monica for 6 months securing the property, funding and finalising my ideas before we opened our doors just a few weeks before my due date.
Ada was born July 1st, 2014 and Isla was just 17m old. I guess knowing my kids were so close in age and not having family around to childmind, starting a business was my idea to keep busy, gain skills /experience, watch my kids grow, help inspire others and create a business to support my local area.
After our official opening we began trading full-time hours in August 2014. From there until now, I realise more every day how much Joy Tots means to my customers, my family and brings out the best version of myself. I find the business rewarding, inspiring and I feel privilaged to provide quality services, products and a space for families to meet, share and play.
I love being a full-time mum, business woman, mumprenuer, photographer, designer and mentor. But above all, I'm so pleased to know how much Joy Tots makes so many people happy! I can't ask for more in life. . .
I hope if you haven't visited the shop, you'll be inspired to come visit. We'd love to welcome you, no matter whether or not you have kids. We welcome all! Who knows, you might even come meet me and my wee munckins kicking about playing, doing art, reading stories, having a cuppa or sewing up a storm while chatting to all of you!
