Hi all, having some issues with messaging on here- for some reason I can't answer them! So if you could direct all enquiries to the surgery that would be great. (01698760015). Julie

INFORMATION FOR PET PASSPORT HOLDERS! With Brexit looming we have been given advice from APHA regarding pet passports. If there is no deal, the UK will revert to needing to do blood titres for rabies before the pet is able to travel. This will mean a blood test and then A WAIT OF AT LEAST 3 MONTHS before the pet can travel. This means if you know you want to travel on 30 March 2019 you would need to see your vet for vaccination/ blood testing on or before 28 November 2018! Give us a call if you need more information. Obviously it will depend on the deal/ no deal scenario, but that is the advice we have been given!

Remember, Remember the 5th of November!
It's that time of year again folks! NOW is the time to prepare!
... Here are some tips to prevent firework fear:
• Provide a den or hiding place where your pet can feel safe.
• In the run up to Bonfire Night, walk your dog when it is still light outside. This reduces the possibility of fireworks being set off and your dog becoming worried.
• Do not let cats out after dark on nights when fireworks are likely.
• Make sure all windows, doors and cat flaps are securely closed during fireworks night. This will reduce the chances of your pets escaping.
• Provide distractions, for example new toys or chews, while fireworks are happening. Draw curtains and switch on the TV or radio to mask the noise from the fireworks.
• Try not to leave your pets alone while fireworks are going off, pets will be more relaxed when they have a familiar person with them during this time.
• Ignore fearful behaviour, such as panting, shaking and whining. Acknowledging this type of behaviour will only confirm to your pet that they should be afraid of the noise of fireworks.
• Animals can also pick up on their owner’s own anxiety, which could make the problem worse. They will be calmer if you also remain calm!!
• DO NOT punish your pet if they display fearful behaviour! This will only make your pet more distressed.
• Provide extra litter trays for cats in case they are not used to being confined to the house.
• If your pet already suffers from firework fear ask a member of staff for advice on products that can be used to decrease stress and anxiety, such as Feliway for cats, Adaptil for dogs or Pet Remedy for all animals.
- Other supplements like Calmex, Yucalm and Adaptil tablets, can also be helpful to keep your dog or cat calm.
• Herbal remedy Scullcap and Valerian tablets can be bought online from Dorwest Herbs, which can also help dogs and cats with anxiety at fireworks time.
If you require any supplements, or other medication for firework fear, please get in touch with us sooner rather than later.
Stay safe!

It's been a very sad day at JIVS. We had to say goodbye to our surgery cat Harris, who had a tumour in his mouth. Those of you who knew him knew he was a cantankerous old sod with a mean right hook, but we will miss him terribly nonetheless! It's so hard to let them go, but it was the right thing for him. Sleep tight, Mr Grumpy xxx

User

Aww. Our Harris. ❤❤❤. Somewhat less of an attack cat at 20 years old with hardly any teeth, but handsome as ever!

User

Hi all, just a reminder we are CLOSED today for the bank holiday. Back tomorrow as normal. Stay well!

User

Can everyone please keep an eye out for Rosie in the Blantyre area. Please check in your garages and sheds. Any info get in touch. Many thanks!

User

Be careful! In this weather dogs even more likely to go in!

Hi all, we are seeing lots of "missed appointments" recently, 5 yesterday alone :(. If you can't make an appointment for any reason, could you please call us and let us know, as we often have people on a waiting list for cancellations. We struggle to fit everyone in at times, so when people don't show up it is very frustrating for us and other clients. Thanks!

User

Hi guys, just another reminder to look out for your animals in this hot weather. Make sure all dogs, cats, and small furries have access to plenty of water to drink, shady cool places to sit, and absolutely do not leave any animal in a car on its own for any length of time. Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!!

User

Thank you everyone!!
