Julie'S Kopitiam Description

Coming soon to Shawlands!

Kopitiam (koh-pi-tee-am): Malaysian word for a traditional coffee shop selling delicious street food

We're a Malaysian street food stall serving up food that Julie's mother taught her to make. You might recognise us from street food festivals and markets like the Big Feed, Feast End Street Food Festival and Ross Street Market, or from our fixtures at Gordon Lane and Buchanan Galleries.

The Kopitiam will be our first permanent venue located in the heart of Shawlands. We hope to open our doors to you at the start of summer 2017.

The one thing we love doing is spreading the love via food, because what is food without LOVE <3
Super excited to be working alongside VICE and The Brooklyn Brewery to cook food from our hearts. Drunken Pork belly of course! We'll be down at BAaD from 3-9 serving it up.
Thanks for the lovely article and for shining a light on Glasgow and the importance of home cooked, simple food VICE. Big love!

CAREER OPPORTUNITY IN KITCHEN. We’ve had the absolute dream team in the kitchen but our sweet gal Disa is going to Sweden for a while, she’ll be very much missed. We’re starting interviews next week for a FULL TIME CHEF/COOK (experience is necessary) but a good interest and love for food is even more necessary than that. Not that into CV’s but definitely send me a brief of who you are, what work you’ve had before and what your career goals are. Tell your friends!

Super happy to be supporting Mind Over Macca for SAMH. Thank you to our pals at The Admiral Bar coming up with this concept, feel very lucky to have such caring pals.
Let’s get talking more about mental health and get rid of the stigma. 💪🏼🙌🏼
We obviously don’t serve macca cheese so we’ll be donating 50p from every Nasi Goreng we sell.

“If I am an advocate for anything, it is to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. Walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food. It’s a plus for everybody.”
You’ll be missed AB. Rest in peace.

Literally could not be happier for our friends at Gnom. Another lovely write up by both Joanna Blythman and Ron McKenna.
Finally Glasgow’s restaurant scene has the breakthrough of small businesses. It doesn’t just need to be large money driven venues in Glasgow. Let it be known to everyone it’s possible - even on the smallest budget you could imagine (trust us 😂). Well done Gnomers!

User

We did a bit of talking to the lovely people behind TRNSMT Festival and our wee shop has got a lil preview in this video.
We said it for everyone who didn’t. Where should you go to get food straight after the festival locally?

Super excited to have you all.
Just a wee friendly reminder that we do walk ins only and don’t take bookings. Reason for this is that it’s such a totey wee restaurant so not to book it out for weeks on end.
We run a very good waiting list system where if there’s a wait we’ll pop your name on a waiting list so you can go for a drink/coffee locally and we’ll give you a text once your table is ready for you.
... Small but great 🙏🏼🤞🏼

Went there for date night last night and it was delicious, great service and the window seats have spectacular people watching vantage points. We will definitely be back

User

The space is so lovely and welcoming as were the staff who made the night pretty great. The food was absolutely incredible, can't even talk enough about how good it was. 10/10 would eat here again.

User

Soooo good! Love my Malaysian food and have to say is one of my top places in G-town! Also helps that the staff are so amazing. Pandan panna cotta 😍

User

So delighted on a cold snowy Friday evening to get a table just gone 5 pm. Good timing or what & just what was needed after a day travelling in age weather conditions. The warming small plates & spicy mains sure put a heat back in us. Service so welcoming too. More than happy to explain the menu. Can't wait to return. Thank you. Lynn Irving

User

Really lovely staff who made us feel welcome by taking the time to explain the menu and how it all works. The food was fantastic. Mooli which is new to me was yummy. The Panna Cotta was delicious. Liked the music and atmosphere too . It's also reasonably priced. So lucky to have this sweet little restaurant in Shawlands. Well done. Jx

User

Oh my days, the food here is amazing! We had Nasi Goreng, Nasi Lemak and Malaysian chicken curry and all three were fantastic! In fact the Nasi Goreng was the best I've ever tasted (including when I was in Malaysia!) Can't wait to go back again!

User

Nailed it. lighting at the right level, music great and at the right level, decor tasteful, staff friendly and attentive, everything thought through properly down to the plates and cups.

Now the food. Bang on, flavours bursting through spiced and seasoned perfectly. Can't wait to go back.

User

Julie's added something special to Glasgow with her Kopitiam! It's cosy and charming to be in and her food is just delicious. Thank you to the friendly staff for helping me decide on a good combination because I wanted it all! Excited to come back and work my way through the rest of the menu. (I'll be ordering those humpty dumplings every time, though.)

User

Its qualitay!

Small but it packs a punch and you'll leave wanting to come back.

We had outstanding corn fritters, a lentil dahl (a special. Which was so aromatic! Never had anything like it before), Malaysian chicken thigh curry and king prawn Malaysian national dish.

Really does justice in showcasing great Malaysian food. Hat's off to the chefs

Staff were amazing. Attentive and helpful and loved that they offered advice on portion sizing to two newbees

User

I'd been once before and loved it. I brought my dad with me to see if it was as good as i thought, he was born in Malaysia, so his opinion would be better than mine.

He said the food reminded him of back home, he thoroughly enjoyed it and we plan to visit as often as possible, I'll be back with or without him though.

The staff are really friendly too.

5 stars from both of us

User

I love to go here when I am feeling homesick for my Mums cooking, always hits the spot and makes me feel a little closer to home.

User

Fantastic, honest food, cooked with care and really fresh ingredients. Finally got here and feeling blessed by Julie's Kopitiam. Great value, unique and charming place.

User

Fantastic food great homely atmosphere and Julie is on hand to let you know all about the amazing dishes. In for lunch today but will definitely be back for dinner some time real soon.

User

Fabulous food and friendly people made this an excellent place to visit on a Thursday night. The pork belly and the pork dumplings were particularly awesome but the biggest surprise was the steamed broccoli. Who knew green veg could taste so good. This will definitely become a local.

User

Eventually got round to visiting after hearing amazing reviews and it definitely didn’t disappoint another gem in the south side foodie crown

User

Been there for lunch today, got the Nasi Goreng with Chinese sausages, it was just the perfect lunch on such a nice day. Great food, great staff, great place.

User

Ate here last night with friends. The booking system worked very well, we waited about 45 minutes for a table for 3 and were able to go for a drink while we waited. The food was amazing and very good value. We had sweet corn fritters, pork dumplings, chicken curry with rice and nasi goreng, finishing off with coconut rice and mango. All incredibly tasty with just the right amount of spice. Julie was a fantastic host. Attentive and helpful.

User

Absolutely superb food and friendly, attentive service. Have been a big fan of Julie's pop ups at various events and the food at kopitiam is even better. Sweetcorn fritters and pork dumplings to start, both incredibly tasty. Slow cooked chicken satay for main, easily the best satay I've tasted. Nasi goreng as our other main, one of my fav dishes cooked perfectly. Rice pudding for dessert packed full of flavour, and special mention for the delicious panna cotta. Looking forward to our next visit already.

User

Corn fritters over cooked ie burnt. Dumplings in vinegar undercooked and tough with no taste. Chicken satay just odd - slow cooked chicken in a peanut soup is not an acceptable twist on what trad satay is in my opinion. Nasi goreng almost black with the amount of soy I think. I was so looking forward to this new place. Suggestions would be tighter control of your kitchen (not sure not being around in the first couple of months is a good idea); nail the traditional dishes first. I did Dom to offer this feedback privately but got no response
