JUST FOR DOGS
CLIENT GROOMING POLICIES
“Our aim is to give you the safest and the happiest grooming experience you can get, these policies are designed to ensure that this is possible and explain any additional charges that may occur. ”

POLICIES
Current Vaccinations, Flea and Worming treatments
For the safety of all our clients, all dogs must be up to date on all vaccinations and boosters. By signing our contract, owners verify their dog is currently vaccinated and have undergone regular flea and worming treatments.
Fleas and Ticks
Please tell us straight away if you suspect there may be fleas or if you have seen any fleas on your dog, we can then give your dog an effective flea bath and will be able to continue the groom as the fleas will be eradicated. If you suspect your pet has fleas or ticks, prompt and thorough action on your part is needed; flea infestation can lead to tapeworm and other health problems both to the dog and to yourself. If fleas are found on your dog during the bathing process, we will give them a flea treatment for an additional charge of at least £5 which will be added to your grooming bill, also if the salon needs to be also be treated then there will be another charge of £5. The treatment will kill the fleas on your dog as well as keeping my salon flea-free. If ticks are found we will remove them for an additional charge of £5. If ticks are removed we strongly suggest you take your dog to the vet for a check and possible testing for Lyme disease. Please remember that parasites are a health hazard to your pet as well as humans.

Mat Removal
Dogs with matted coats need extra attention during their grooming session and this will result in an extra charge. Mats left in a dogs’ coat only grow tighter, and can strangle the dog’s skin or eventually tear it open. Our salon is a stress-free, cruelty-free dog grooming business. WE WILL NOT continually de-mat your dog for you. Brushing out tightly matted coats is painful for your dog and can cause brush irritation and very sore skin. It is your responsibility as the owner to brush your dog between each grooming or bring your dog in for our FREE in- between appointment brush up. Heavily matted coats WILL need to be shaved. When necessary, removing a heavily matted coat includes the risk of nicks, cuts or abrasions due to warts, moles and skin folds trapped in the mats. Heavy matting can also trap moisture and urine close to the skin allowing mould, fungus or bacteria to grow, causing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming procedure. The after effects of mat removal can include, skin redness, itchiness, self-inflicted irritation or abrasions. Shaving matted ears will sometimes cause a dog to shake their head continually and this can cause bleeding. Dogs that require having their tails shaved also may act strange. The feeling of having a matted tail shaved may cause your dog to sit continually and chase their tail. Usually with time your dog will grow accustomed to their newly shaven tail. Prevention is the best defense against matting by scheduling regular grooming appointments.
Aggressive or Dangerous Pets
Owners MUST inform us if your dog bites, has bitten, or is aggressive to people, other pets or specific grooming procedures. we reserve the right to refuse or stop services for your dog at any time before or after the grooming process, and charge an Aggressive Dog Fee of £10 in addition to the regular grooming charge.

Health and Medical Problems
Grooming procedures can sometimes be stressful, especially for a senior dog or dog with health problems, and can expose hidden medical problems or aggravate a current one during or after the groom. We will make the grooming experience as relaxing as possible for your dog and will watch for any signs of discomfort. If at any time your dog should need immediate Veterinary treatment during their treatment we will do my best to contact you (the owner) first, and then take your dog to the closest Veterinary surgery for immediate treatment. By signing this agreement, JUST FOR DOGS has permission to obtain immediate veterinary treatment for your dog if deemed necessary.
Puppy’s First Haircut
The first grooming experience for a puppy requires patience and understanding. Puppies should begin their first grooming experience after they are fully vaccinated. We may need to use the first groom as a get-to-know-them day. We will make it a great experience and if your puppy is happy to be groomed we will give them an all over haircut, but if your puppy finds the experience stressful we will only do a small amount of grooming to let them grow accustomed to the sounds of the clippers. Typically the first groom is only a sanitary trim, eye hair trimmed, pads trimmed, nails trimmed and a bath and dry and gradually adding steps to the grooming process on a regular basis will help to minimize any potential stress. Owners can help their puppies accept grooming by regularly massaging their paws as well as brushing and combing their coats. Our puppy appointments are FREE till 20 weeks old.
Accidents
There is always the possibility that an accident could occur. Grooming equipment is sharp, even though we use extreme caution and care in ALL situations. Problems that can occur include cuts, nicks, scratches and bleeding of nails, etc. In most cases this happens when your dog is wriggling or moving around. We make every effort to ensure your dog is groomed as safely as possible, but if your dog does not accept the process it can be dangerous to continue the groom.
Appointments
If you are running late for your appointment time please call as soon as possible, you may need to reschedule. It is usual for dog that needs to be trimmed to be required for a 2½-hour minimum stay. We offer you the free collect and delivery service if you live in Ayrshire.
No-shows and Cancellations
Kindly give at least 24-hours notice if you are unable to keep your appointment. We understand that sometimes there are emergency situations and we will work with you, but not on a continued basis.
