About Kelly Whitelaw Art
Animal artist specialising in pet portrait commissions and wildlife art
Kelly Whitelaw Art Description
My pathway into art was unusual to say the least! I graduated from University in 2011 as a Veterinary Surgeon and worked in this field in a few different practices for a number of years. Throughout my time working as a vet, I worked with a variety of species, from cats, dogs, small furries and reptiles through to cattle, sheep, goats, horses and alpacas with some wildlife thrown in as well. I was very passionate and dedicated to my job and expected this to be my lifelong career.
Unfortunately, due to severe health problems I had to give up my career as a vet. During a prolonged period of time when I was housebound, I decided to teach myself to draw and paint. A passion for art took hold of me and now it is firmly part of my life. Due to my love for animals and my knowledge of their anatomy I was drawn to creating animal portraits. I started taking pet portrait commissions for friends and family and it has grown gradually from there. I enjoy creating portraits of all types and species of animals and birds.
I am currently taking pet portrait commissions in a range of sizes, which come mounted and can be framed if required. I create my portraits with pastels and coloured pencils. High quality, clear photographs (a variety to choose from is ideal) are needed to produce a high-quality portrait. For enquiries, please send me a message with details of your request and I will be happy to discuss prices with you.
