Had a lovely relaxing week with stunning views. Very friendly staff and we really enjoyed the clay pigeon shooting.

Away, Beautiful and Quiet; what else you need?

Spent a weekend here for family 90th birthday party. We stayed in the villa house which was quite impressive,although decor a bit "tired". Bedding, towels were very clean..kitchen well equipped and all in all very comfortable. The owners were very helpful.
Only downside was the "missed corners" when hoovering and dusting (a few dead flies and cobwebs)

We have stayed at the Gate Lodge on the Killean Estate several times now, and plan to do so again. This is a charming cottage, clean, comfortable and warm, with a very spacious and well equipped kitchen, a downstairs bedroom (the other two are upstairs) which is ideal for someone who struggles with stairs, large bathroom (downstairs), and a cosy living room. Everything is well maintained, and estate staff are immediately available if and when needed. The location on the main road makes access easy, and affords unobstructed views out to Gigha, Islay and Jura, with a sandy beach only a short walk away. There is a village shop at Tayinloan, a mile up the road. Having stayed in many holiday cottages on the west coast of Scotland, this probably scores the highest with us.

Update on previous. WIFI now tuned up to 7mbs! Happiness.

GATE LODGE Cottage:

There is no steady stream of vehicles along the A road going at 80mph. Whoever wrote that must have been drunk. One car a minute more like it and not high speed. I have never had to wait for a car to cross the road. At 6am or 2am you will NOT be wakened or kept from sleeping.

Lovely cottage beautifully furnished clean as clean can be. Magnificent kitchen with lovely view. The stairs are cottage stairs and a bit steep but there is a downstairs bedroom for us old people with a connecting door into the bathroom. Luxury. Comfy beds nice bedrooms and very helpful estate staff. Free WiFi - this is West Coast Kintyre so not the superfast WiFi you may have at home in the city but 2mbs allows fine streaming of movies and can run a bunch of phones. Powerful Vodafone signal with a fast Edge for data. Moderate EE signal with a slowish 3G. Quite good Three.

Not ideal for young children as the furnishings are too nice - young children are tough on furniture - and it is close to an accessible Road.

Nice walks. Handy store a mile up the road.
