Kimberley Town Council

Kimberley is a former brewing town in Nottinghamshire and Kimberley Town council is the initial level of elected local government responsible for the town.

The first meeting of the then Parish Council was held in 1896 and its status was changed to a Town Council in the 1980’s

Kimberley Town council has 15 councillors and elections for these positions take place every four years, the next election being in 2015. The councillors are all volunteers and are not paid but have a passionate desire to do their best for the Kimberley community. In addition to the councillors we employ a clerk, responsible finance officer, a full time and relief caretaker & maintenance person and a gardener all of whom receive a salary.

The Parish Hall is available for hire for private functions. Please contact the clerk for further information or use the booking form on this website.

We hold meetings on a regular basis at the Parish Hall on Newdigate Street, the main ones being Full Council, Recreation & Parish Hall committee & events committee. The public are welcome to attend these meetings and each agenda has provision for public question time where matters of concern can be brought to the council’s attention. The old record books for the council are deposited at the Nottingham Archives and are available for public inspection.

The Town Council is involved in many community events and initiatives including provision of activities for young people, management of two allotment sites and two recreation areas at the Stag and Knowle Park, providing Christmas festive lights, flowers and hanging baskets during the summer season, and supporting local organisations with annual grant awards. We are also responsible for the Cemetery Chapel & the War Memorial, two of the iconic buildings in Kimberley.
