In 2017, 840 million people had no electricity access. Due to population growth in under-served countries, hundreds of millions more will require an electricity connection by 2030. For many rural communities, expanding the national grid is not the answer. The cost of grid expansion is high, particularly if distances are large and terrain challenging. Kinetic Hydro Ltd have developed an innovative river turbine to generate electricity from the largely untapped energy resource available in the flow of water in the world's rivers. This includes considerable potential in Sub Saharan Africa and in South and East Asia where the energy access requirements are most pressing. Our river turbines can produce continuous (baseload) power, contributing to the energy security of rural communities. They are designed to suit the practicalities of remote areas, including easy transportation, installation and maintenance; features that are essential to making power accessible to those who would otherwise be left behind.
