I'm a former journalist who loves words. Books are my passion, and I love helping authors tell their stories. I specialise in working with independent (indie) authors who plan to self-publish or approach an agent. My particular area of expertise is working on a word and sentence level – I polish prose (I also make a mean banana loaf). I'm an Advanced Professional Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP). If you don't know what that means (and most people don't), it means that I've reached the highest level in the society and have been vetted by a panel of experts. They're like the Dragon's Den but much nicer. I'm also a Charter Member of the Association of Independent Publishing Professionals (AIPP), and a Partner Member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi). And because I like to join things, I am also a member of the international editorial collective Editing Globally, a group of experienced editorial professionals who provide seamless and thorough editorial services to clients around the world. What does all that mean? Well, it means a) I know what I'm doing (when it comes to editing, that is. I haven't got a clue about some other things. DIY, for example) and b) that I care about professional development and improving myself (but I draw the line at only reading ‘improving' books).
