Laggwood Cottage

Perfect location for a break away from everything with a river at the bottom of the garden. We had a wonderful week there and hope to be back one day

Wonderful place for a total getaway. No network coverage or Internet, but free Wi-Fi at hotel opposite for emergency

October 8th 2011. Just spent a fantastic week at Laggwood.The weather was not great but the cottage more than made up for that by being so comfortable and welcoming. We know Arran well and this is by far the best cottage we have stayed in on the island.Unlike the person below,we were desperate to see bats,had a bat detector with us,but to no avail. We did however see red squirrels every day in the garden,and lots of different birds at the feeders. Laggwood is a brilliant place to base yourself on Arran - highly recommend it.

I feel a bit mean dropping a star, but while the cottage is in a lovely position, and very comfortable (with the exception of the couch/bed for sitting on!), and has virtually everything you could need provided, it has one extra which we did not appreciate! Bats. Bats are a protected species so giving them a quick swat is not on and I am a person who is not keen on birds swooping close to me in confined spaces and this includes flying mammals! I am not alone as none of our party of six enjoyed this experience on a couple of evenings during our stay, and it did slightly mar an otherwise great visit to a lovely island. This would not be a year round problem, so I would simply advise that if this aspect worries you, then do a bit of research before you go.

We had a wonderful holiday in Laggwood Cottage once again for the second year running. We were fortunate with the weather and that made our stay all the more pleasant. I cannot fault it in any way at all. We long to be be back there as soon as possible!

My friends and I had a very enjoyable, relaxing and fun stay at the Cottage. I had been to Arran for summer holidays as a boy and it was great to return to this wonderful island and use Laggwood Cottage as our base. The cottage was well equiped, clean and with a lovely cosy log burning fire. There is a nice beach just a short walk out the back of the cottage, which was ideal for getting some fresh air the morning after a night with my friends!

I would recommend Laggwood cottage for families and groups of friends provided that they are not intending on going the week I want to!
