We are warning people of the dangers of taking drugs after a suspected drug related death in Preston.
We were called at around 4am this morning (Sunday, June 23rd) by the Ambulance Service after a 17-year-old boy had taken ill at an address on Garstang Road.
He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards. His family have been informed.
... Whilst his death is currently being treated as unexplained, it is believed that he had taken MDMA and cannabis during the evening before he became unwell.
DI Martin Pearson from Preston Police said: “This is an extremely sad set of circumstances and my thoughts are with the boy’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.
“We know that he was at a gathering at a house with some friends and we believe he has taken drugs in the lead up to his death.
“Following this tragic incident, I would like to take this opportunity to remind people, especially youngsters, of the potential risks of taking drugs. Whilst they may be seen as safe and enjoyable, they can prove fatal.
“If you have taken something and start to feel unwell, please seek medical attention immediately.”
An investigation is on-going into the time leading up to the boy’s death. A file is being prepared for HM Coroner.
For information about the dangers of taking drugs and their effects, please visit Talk to Frank at http://socsi.in/v8dXA.

Lancashire National Champions!
Lancon netball team competed in the PSUK Netball final yesterday against The Metropolitan Team, who were the reigning champions. In a very tight, hard fought game Lancs drew with The Met 45-45 & had to play extra time. After a nail biting extra 10 minutes Lancashire came out victorious winning 50-49. This was a superb squad performance and a well deserved victory for the dedication shown by the whole team. Not only in attending PSUK fixtures b...ut also for friendly matches against regional squads.
Thanks also goes to all the supporters who travelled to Nottingham, their support and cheering was much appreciated. Lancs have not won this competition since 1982 so this is a fantastic achievement. Lancs will now go on to represent the Police force in the 2020 Crown Netball competition and compete against other forces such as RAF, Army, Navy and Fire Service

We’re the first force in the country to roll out a fleet of vehicles kitted out with a ground-breaking weapons storage system which could potentially reduce our response time to major incidents. Supt Julian Platt explains in this video how the system has already been used.

Following our earlier post, here’s Supt Julian Platt talking about our brand new Aeryon R60 Skyranger drones

Innovation is the word of the moment at Lancashire Police thanks to brand new technology being rolled out across the county.
Following a successful trial last year, a pair of drones are now in full operation for use in a variety of incidents including searches for missing people, crowd patrol at football matches, firearms incidents, searches for cannabis farms and at the scene of road traffic accidents (to name just a few!)
Two drones operating on a ‘tag team’ basis can rema...in in the air indefinitely, covering more ground than officers on foot and providing them with a clear, aerial view of a situation.
In addition, a fleet of armed response vehicles have been kitted out with a brand new weapons storage system, with more set to be fitted with the new tech over the coming months.
The new design means weapons on board ARVs will be stored in a specially-designed safe, which will be both secure and easily accessible from the cab of the vehicles, so that officers will not have to stop to get ‘kitted up’ en route to incidents where an armed response is needed.
This could potentially reduce our response time to major incidents by several minutes. It also means officers patrolling a large crowd in an ARV will be able to react much quicker if an incident begins to unfold.
We are the first force in the country to roll out such a system.
Supt Julian Platt, Operations Manager at Lancashire Police, said: “We, and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, have invested a huge amount of resources into researching and bringing to reality these new pieces of kit and we hope it shows not only our commitment to innovation but also our commitment to giving our officers on the ground the very best and latest tools to help them as they deal with both daily business and major incidents.
“Our priority is to keep residents safe and feeling safe. From this perspective we have seen the benefit of both the drones and the weapons storage system already.”
Keep your eyes on this page for videos of Supt Julian Platt talking about the new kit and some of the situations where it has already helped us.

CAN YOU HELP?
Police are making a fresh bid for information, eight months on from the last sighting of Preston man Steven Durand.
Steven, 31, was reported as missing from the Hornby Avenue area of Preston on October 28.
... Enquiries have revealed that Steven’s last known movements are as follows:
- At 14:00 hours on 19 October, Steven’s card was used at cash machine in Chorley town centre.
- It is believed Steven travelled by train from Chorley to Manchester later in the afternoon of 19 October.
- At around 07:00 on 20 October, Steven was seen on CCTV at Bargain Booze on Bolton Road in Salford (pictured)
- Steven visited the Premier Store on Agecroft Road in Swinton at 11:00 hours on 20 October. This is the last confirmed sighting of Steven.
Despite several appeals for information, Steven has not been seen since 20 October.
Steven’s mum Christine Durand is desperate for news about her son and is asking everyone to cast their minds back to that time.
She said: “Steven suffers from mental health issues but is a very kind soul and will talk to anyone. I’d ask that people think back to those dates in October and have a really good think if they were in the Chorley or Manchester areas. Did you see my son or even have a conversation with him? Steven has been gone for eight months now and my one plea is that people don’t forget about him. Every month that passes is another without my son and another month of pain and worry.”
Steven is described as mixed race, 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build with cropped dark hair. He is mixed-race and walks with a noticeable limp due to having cerebral palsy. Steven has links to the Preston and Chorley areas.
DC Jon Quinn of Preston Police said: “Steven’s disappearance is of great concern for us and we are doing all we can to find him but we need the public’s help. Somebody must know something and I’d urge anyone with information, no matter how small or insignificant they think it is, to make contact with us today.” Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log 0820 of October 28.
Alternatively independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
