Law Society Of Scotland Description

The Law Society of Scotland is the professional body for the Scottish legal profession. We were established in 1949 and are financed by our members without any funding from government.

Not only do we regulate and support all practising solicitors in Scotland, we also have an important duty towards the public interest. All practising solicitors are members of the Society and are required to meet our high standards.

As a professional body, our purpose is to lead legal excellence – this reflects our leadership role and our pursuit of excellence, taking us beyond simply being successful and respected and recognising that our members operate in and outside of Scotland.

This aim is underpinned by five objectives.
1. To ASSURE our members’ clients and employers by setting and upholding standards that ensure excellent legal and customer service
2. To SERVE our members through a detailed understanding of their needs, providing tools and services which they can use every day
3. To EXCEL by operating as a world-class organisation
4. To INFLUENCE the creation of a fairer and more just society by being an international centre in law and justice thought leadership
5. To GROW our membership and income by being a vibrant, influential and inclusive organisation
