The 2nd Linlithgow Autumn Handicap tournament was held on 17th November with over a dozen players across all levels taking part.
The event was organised into a group stage with those progressing entering a knock out stage of the competition. The handicaps meant each single game match was keenly contested with most matches finishing with a very close score. All in all the format made for an extremely exciting and open tournament.
A repeat of last year’s final saw Ross Elliot...t take on Paul Couper. This year though the outcome was different with Ross taking the honours and the trophy.
Many thanks to Ross Ferguson for organising once again and to Roy Miller and Ideal Catering Consultancy for sponsoring the tournament and providing the trophies. Greatly appreciated guys. All proceeds from the event went to the Junior funds.

A few Linlithgow ladies went on a road trip yesterday and played Oban Squash club. It was quite a drive but they were fantastic hosts and the squash was great. We look forward to a return match in the future!

Update from the ladies section: On Sunday 22nd April, Linlithgow ladies hosted a friendly match versus Dunblane. A great afternoon of squash and post match food was enjoyed by all. Linlithgow ladies won 4 of their 5 matches. Well done Magali, Jean, Lisa, Gemma and Kirsten!

From Scottish Squash:
Recently Scottish Squash was a part of a fantastic initiative in support of driving female participation in sport. We partnered up with the charitable arm know as 'Scottish Women in Sport' and delivered sessions in the West of Scotland. In addition to this, we also had the University of the West of Scotland editing a fantastic piece specifically on the top female squash player in Scotland (youtube link below!).
Following on from this fantastic media bli...tz we want to use this time to create a legacy of sessions that will inspire young girls to take up the sport. So, the "G/rls Do Squash - East of Scotland" performance and beginner day is born. This will be the very start of our national push to increase female participation across the board and showcase just how fantastic and friendly our sport really is.
On Saturday the 24th of February from 10am - 1pm will we head to 'Edinburgh Sports Club, Belford Place' to deliver a FREE of charge day to all performance and development girls between the ages of 7 and 18. Whether they're already playing or want to try the sport for the very first time we will have a team there to inspire and facilitate their every need. Equipment will be provided to all that come along as well as tea and coffee provided for any parents wanting to stick around and watch.
The poster for this event is attached to the email if you are able to send it to friends and family as well as pinning it up at your local club that would be fantastic. If you or anyone you know might be interested in this incredible event that we have lined up then please do get in touch!
Let's get G/rls Do Squash off to a flying start in the East of Scotland!!

Musselburgh Sports Centre, Sat 11th Nov, 12pm - 4pm
Social Squash is launching in the East of Scotland! Whether you are completely new to the game or if you have been playing for a wee while why not sign up and come along to the first edition (of many!) of the "East of Scotland - Social Squash Tour - Musselburgh Edition". How the event runs...
The first hour will be a brief warm-up and some coaching tips (for those that want them) as well as the event co-ordinator organising ...the draw and setting the running order for the day. After that, we will set the standard specific draw and have a good mix of timed matches and first to 15 matches. We will have coffee/tea/juice and a bit of food available throughout the event for those that are off court socialising.
Meet new people to play against and join the ever growing East of Scotland squash community.
Contact: kevin.moran@scottishsquash.org to sign up or for more details.
Important event info: Aimed more at beginner/amateur players. Under 700 SportyHQ points as a rough guide (just over is fine). Play will be a series of timed games/normal scored games against players of similar experience and standard. In some case players might be asked to cover a court fee for the club (max £5).

Hi all! The junior coaching sessions that run from 0940 to 1100 on Saturday mornings are in need of additional volunteers. We typically get eight 6 to 10 year olds in the first session and three 10+ year olds in the second session so often we need a couple of volunteers split across the two courts. We have a small group of dedicated volunteers at present supporting Robert Purdie as coach. However, there may be occasional Saturdays when we struggle for coverage. As such we are looking for additional volunteers to add to our pool of helpers on a rota basis. If you are interested in helping out please contact Ross at lin.squash@gmail.com Many thanks, Ross

Just a reminder that Junior Coaching starts back on Saturday morning, 26th August. We have Court 1 booked from 09:40 to 11:40 and Court 2 booked from 09:50 to 11:30 but as we are still trying to formalise coaches for the weekend it would be good to understand who is likely to come along and their ages. As such if you intend on bringing your child along to coaching this weekend can you email (lin.squash@gmail.com) details of name and age by Thursday evening so we can structure the coaching sessions accordingly. I'll send a further email out on Friday advising what times each child should attend, however, as with last year the younger age group are likely to be in the 09:40 session and the more advanced juniors at the 10:20 session. Many thanks, Ross Elliott
