Branch History:

The Branch was founded as the Craigshill Branch in 1968. The inaugural meeting was addressed by the newly elected Winnie Ewing MP. At that stage we met in Riverside Primary School.

The early office bearers included Phil Henderson, Don Farquherson, Eddie Knight and Jim Adens (out of these four only Jim Adens is still an active member)

As the New Town grew during the 1970s the Branch expanded into Howden and then Ladywell, and to reflect this we changed our title to the Livingston East Branch.

At that point in time additional Committee members /activists included Donnie and Anne MacNeill, Doris Adens, Marion Dunlop, George and Sheila Robertson, Dave and Elsie Hutcheson. Unfortunately many of these activists have also passed away. Anne MacNeill is still very active member.

One of the early highlights at that time was the election of our first Councillor for Craigshill - Eddie Knight with Jim Adens as Election Agent. At that time we were part of Midlothian County Council (pre 1975 reorganisation) The second Councillor elected was Tom Wood from Howden. The third councillor elected was Frank Anderson, who was persuaded by Donnie MacNeill to switch from the Deans ward to this one. Frank was duly elected in 1987, after a lot of hard work by the Branch and his election agent Donnie, and has represented our community since then.

As the Branch grew our meeting places also changed. Having started in Riverside Primary School, we used Howden House, Toronto Primary School and finally back to Craig's Farm.

The final move took place when the Ladywell part of the Branch area took off to form a new Branch.

When Local Government election boundaries changed Howden was incorporated with Ladywell in the Livingston North area. Also at that time Pumpherston and Uphall Station were incorporated into the Livingston East Branch area.

Our MSP is Angela Constance. Her website can be found here: http://angelaconstance. co. uk / We are very proud of "Oor Local Lass" and of her accomplishments within our constituency and the great work she does in the community.

Following the Independence Referendum in 2014 many people flocked to join the SNP. In the few months between then and the 2015 General Election, Livi East Branch membership rocketed from around 30 to over 180 members!

The MP for Livingston is Hannah Bardell. She grew up in Craigshill and is a member of Livi East Branch (her mum used to be our Vice-Convener! ). All of Livingston is proud of Hannah - but Livi East Branch most of all : )
