About Loch Ness Shores Camping And Caravanning Club Site And Leisure Park

Camping and Caravanning Club Site with leisure activities on the south shore of Loch Ness

Loch Ness Shores Camping And Caravanning Club Site And Leisure Park Description

Loch Ness Shores Camping and Caravanning Site - the name says it all. This is one of the few locations, with easy access to Loch Ness where you can picnic and barbeque on the shore. The panoramic views across to Meall Fuar-mhonaidh and beyond are representative of the spectacular local scenery. Photographs of the area found on this page haven’t been taken by professionals but by visitors who return time and again to enjoy this unique location.
The flora and fauna are second to none with otters, squirrels, pine martens, stoats, sika and roe deer all frequenting the site and surrounding farm land with bats and badgers restricting their visits to the evenings and night time. And if that isn’t enough a 2012 RSPB survey identified over 40 species of wild birds locally and since then they have been joined by a family of Jays.
Located at Foyers on the south side of Loch Ness, where the Forbes family have farmed for generations, Donald supported by his wife Lyn have spent 6 years planning this brand new site, a farm diversification which offers facilities to 5* standard. However, despite what could be called luxury in camping and caravanning terms, it is our intention to support a sustainable environment through best use of resources. This is demonstrated through our choice of green energy and buildings with energy efficient construction and low impact, locally sourced materials.
Innovative sustainable technology is used including solar thermal and geo-thermal systems and even the water is sourced from boreholes on site. This provides the under floor heating and hot water for the buildings which are equipped to 5*standard including the service block. Am Fasgadh (Gaelic for shelter) will accommodate the communal area with table tennis and other games available, plus a site shop where you can buy takeaway food and even hire fire pits and locally sourced timber for barbeques on the shore.
WildNess is our chosen partner for delivering outdoor activities. Passionate about the natural environment Aly Ainsworth who focuses on environmental outdoor activities is creating unique opportunities for people to 'travel' through beautiful landscapes using 'leave no trace' principles. These will include opportunities to walk, climb, ski, and cycle learning more about the local area and heritage. Canoeing and kayaking can also be arranged.
With the opening of the South Loch Ness Trail and Great Glen Canoe Trail and the extension of the National Cycle Network all of which pass within close proximity of the site, there has been tremendous support from membership organisations for this, the only place with facilities to camp on the South Shore of Loch Ness.
Donald and Lyn’s vision is that Loch Ness Shores Camping and Caravanning Club Site will help the local area to retain its current services and encourage others to come to live, work and visit the area. As one of only a few people who were born in Foyers still residing in the village, Donald can remember his school days when there were over 100 pupils in the village school, 2 shops, a pub, hotels and the Club, with its billiard room and dance hall where dances were held regularly through the winter months. Summers were taken up with bowls, tennis and most importantly of all the Boleskine Shinty Team had their home ground near the campsite, with locals flocking to watch the local team on a Saturday afternoon.
Foyers, once an industrial village with over 300 people employed in the Aluminium smelter, was one of the places bombed during the war. It was also the first place in Britain to get electric street lights, which lit the paths for the workers in the village. A few hundred yards from the smelter is the old pier, where all the raw materials for the smelter came in by boat and the aluminium ingots were taken away. The road to Inverness was upgraded eventually in the late 1950’s and road haulage took over this work. The pier is due to be restored in 2013 so that any vessel using the canal can berth in Foyers once again.
Foyers and the surrounding area has lots of history, including a cave repeatedly used by Bonnie Prince Charlie after his defeat at *Culloden (*25 miles to the East of Foyers) and roads and bridges designed and build by General Wade. Another claim to fame are the Falls of Foyers, reputedly visited by Queen Victoria on her Highland travels and subject of a poem by Robert Burns.
Minutes away from the site of the family home of James Fraser, the Dun Bonnet, as told in the Diana Gabaldon books, the shore was also used as the beach location in Ted Danson and Jolie Richardson’s film Loch Ness. The rabbit scene from the film Local Hero was also shot only a few miles up the road from here! We even have our own monster - what more could you ask?
Thank you for coming to our facebook page, now plan a trip to Loch Ness Shores Camping and Caravanning Club Site, opening in late June 2013, a booking form for members and non-members will be available shortly on www. campingandcaravanningclub. co. uk / Donald and Lyn and managers Colette and Mark are working hard preparing for your visit and we guarantee you a warm welcome and a holiday to remember.

We have just had a great visit from The Hewer’s. We couldn’t resist sharing these pictures of the dogs having fun and chilling in the Loch.

User

We just had Mandy Allan and her family staying for 5 nights and they kindly shared some photos with us, including this image of the elusive Nessie.

User

Thanks Stella Clarke for the great review and picture, we are glad you guys had such a great holiday here.

User

Thanks to Sian who works at Loch Ness Shores and supplied these beautiful pictures of guests that were staying at our site and arrived on various forms of boats. The annual 'raid' (a fleet of small boats) is always something to behold!

The South Loch Ness Trail will be completed this summer. This fantastic aerial footage is of the section between Fort Augustus and Glendoe constructed in 2017. Funded by SSE, this section links to the final major section of the trail that VisitInvernessLochNess are presently constructing. Although titled a cycle path in the video, this section is of the highest quality and fit for all users- walkers, cyclists, horse riders and those with limited mobility.

Lots of guests have been lucky enough over the past few days to have seen apache helicopters training over the loch, even flying low over the site.

We had lots of doggies visiting the site over the bank holiday weekend, Louie approves of the Loch!

User

Even when choppy, the famous Loch which dominates the landscape of our site looks hauntingly beautiful today.

User

Another tick on the interesting wildlife list. Whilst walking near the site one of our campers found a slow worm. Amazing creatures, kids love looking for them in the summer, normally best found in long grassy areas on sunny days.

Loch Ness Shores are really happy to welcome two new members to the team, Emily and John. Both these guys are local to Foyers and the surrounding villages (as are all staff working at Loch Ness Shores). We know Emily and John will both be great assets to the team.

User

We have just spotted 2 male Mandarin Ducks at one of our birdfeeders. We get a massive array of birds on site but we are all really excited as this is a first for us!

Two of our regulars Peter and Evelyn are staying on site and have caught the first trout of the seaon.

We stayed here from 9th April till the 11th in the 5person Wigwam. We were in one at the top of the hill and the view was absolutely breathtaking. All the members of staff were very friendly and knowledgable about the surrounding areas. Our 12 yr old and 4 yr old loved exploring by the loch. Our 1st experience glamping was superb....cant wait to come back. Keep up the super work guys

We are just back from a lovely weekend in one of the sites wigwams - we had an amazing time and look forward to visiting again. All the staff were so helpful and friendly and had lots of good advice and tips, the site was extremely clean and is in the perfect location with amazing views. We will 100% be back!

User

This site and its setting is so amazing 5* was not enough. 11 nights just returned home and are truly down about leaving. If we could have stayed 365 days we would. If you want the best service views facilities and magic this is the site for you.

User

This campsite was the best out of our whole week away w/c 15th January 2018. The location is excellent, Loch side location but also the feeling of being sheltered from the elements with the hill behind you. The staff are SO welcoming and friendly. Always stopping to chat and smiling. So helpful and genuine! The facilities are second to none, spotless, modern and roomy. Excellent little campsite shop with many goodies for a little treat. Nice walks direct from the site. Welcomes dogs! No negatives at all. Highly recommend. Would love to come back in summer.

User

The best campsite we have been to in Scotland. Facilities are excellent. Toilets and showers are immaculate. Plenty of space at each pitch and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Great options for food onsite and near by. The owners are very accommodating and have good advice for things to do in the local area. They are kind, honest people. Would recommend hiring the kayaks, great fun. We will definitely be returning soon.

User

Friendly, well organised and well deserving of it's 'Best Loo' awards! The facilities are well thought out and kept very clean. We stayed in our caravan on a Super Service pitch. This made a refreshing change because we never had to fetch water!! The views are amazing and the opportunities for walking from the site are plentiful. We stayed with our 2 miniature schnauzers who loved the walks. We even took them our on the dinghy. The shop is well stocked with lots of Scottish and local produce. So yes, we would definitely recommend Loch Ness Shores. Thank you to everyone for making us welcome.

Having had a caravan for over 30 years we decided to buy a motorhome and tried it out for the first time at this site which is only 35 miles away from our home. Well, what a perfect place to try it out. Staff, facilities, views, well everything really is just perfect. Just back from our second visit. To think this has been on our doorstep for 3-4 years now and we have never visited before. Best toilets/showers on any site we have visited in the last 30 years. Owners Donald and Lynn feel like old friends and their staff are on hand to help with anything you need. Add to that the stunning scenery and there is no better place. Being so close to us we won’t be spending much time at home, no matter what the weather. Highly recommend!
