About Lodge Thorntree 1038
The name Thorntree comes from a tree that was standing during the Battle of Prestonpans in the year 1745 and was used as a focal point. The Lodge has 'Working Tools' made from the timbers of the tree when it was cut down.
Our meetings are held within our own premises which we acquired in 1950, before that our meetings were held in various buildings in the town of Prestonpans.
During our symbolic formation, The Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lothian did not function, therefor the Provincial Master of Midlothian and his Office Bearers formed the Lodge. We have remained within the Provincial of Midlothian ever since.

An insight into Scottish Freemasonry will be aired on Monday, 19 March on BBC 2 at 21.00 hrs (UK time).
If you watched the documentary on the English lodges on sky I believe it is fair to say that was not typically representative of Scottish lodges. Hopefully this is closer to Scottish craft experience ( can't tell yet as we haven't seen this one!)

Very proud to be an Honorary member of this wonderful lodge.
Met brethren from Thorntree at the procession for Fisherrow's 250th last month. My great-grandfather and grandfather were members of the 'other' Thorntree, 512, in Renfrewshire East. Look forward to my first visit.
I would like to thank the Brethren from Lodge Thorntree 1038, who came through to Lodge Alexandra 1282 in Glasgow on Monday evening.I hope you enjoyed the MMM degree by ourr Past Masters Association which was conferred on my brother Hugh Grandison.
